The upcoming anime film Whoever Steals This Book (Kono Hon o Nusumu Mono wa) has released a new trailer, offering a fresh look at the magical adventure, alongside the announcement of six additional voice cast members. The movie is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on December 26, 2025.
The film, an adaptation of Nowaki Fukamidori’s novel, promises a fantasy mystery centered on books and a town steeped in literary lore.
A Deeper Dive into the Story and Visuals
The newly released trailer provides further glimpses into the enchanted world of Whoever Steals This Book. The story follows Mifuyu Mikura, a high school student who, despite her family’s long lineage of book collectors and their management of the grand Mikura Hall library, holds no affection for books. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when books are stolen from the library, triggering an ancient curse that transforms the town into a realm shaped by various stories.
To break the curse and restore her town, Mifuyu must embark on a quest to retrieve the stolen books, venturing into the very narratives she once disliked. She is joined by the enigmatic Mashiro, and together they navigate this transformed world filled with magical challenges and mysteries.
The trailer also showcases the film’s visual style, brought to life by Studio Kagokan, with Daiki Fukuoka directing. Yasuhiro Nakanishi is handling the screenplay, while Keiko Kurosawa is credited with character design and serves as chief animation director. Michiru Ōshima is composing the music, and Yuji Higa is the animation producer. The theme song, “Share,” is performed by YUKI.
Expanding the Voice Cast: Six New Additions
Adding to the anticipation, six new voice actors have been revealed to join the already announced main cast, bringing more characters to life in this literary fantasy. The new cast members include:

Production Details and Release
The Whoever Steals This Book anime film is an adaptation of Nowaki Fukamidori’s novel, which was originally published by Kadokawa Shoten in October 2020. A manga adaptation illustrated by Kakeru Sora also ran from December 2021 to March 2023.
The film is directed by Daiki Fukuoka at Studio Kagokan and is slated for a Japanese theatrical release on December 26, 2025.
