Anime streaming platform OceanVeil has officially announced it will simulcast the highly anticipated second season of Blue Miburo (also known as Ao no Miburo), with episodes becoming available an hour after their Japanese broadcast. The historical samurai anime’s “Serizawa Assassination Arc” is set to premiere in Japan on December 20, 2025, at 5:30 PM JST.
The news comes as fans eagerly await the continuation of the Edo period saga, which delves into the formation and trials of the Miburo, who would later become the legendary Shinsengumi. OceanVeil also plans to make the first season available on its platform in the coming weeks, providing an opportunity for new viewers to catch up and existing fans to re-experience the initial journey.
Blue Miburo Season 2: The Serizawa Assassination Arc
The second season of Blue Miburo will specifically adapt the “Serizawa Assassination Arc” from Tsuyoshi Yasuda’s original manga. This arc is a pivotal period in the history of the Miburo, focusing on the tumultuous events surrounding Kamo Serizawa, one of the original lead commanders of the Mibu Roshigumi. Historically, Serizawa Kamo was assassinated in 1863, an event that will likely be a central dramatic point of the upcoming season.
The anime’s first season, which aired for 24 episodes from October 2024 to March 2025, introduced viewers to Nio Chirinu, a kind-hearted boy driven by a strong sense of justice. He encounters Toshizo Hijikata and Soji Okita, members of the Mibu ronin, eventually joining their fight to defend Kyoto amidst the political upheaval of the late Edo period.
Production and Returning Staff
MAHO FILM is once again handling the animation production for Blue Miburo Season 2. Kumiko Habara returns as the director, with Kenta Ihara overseeing the series composition. Character designs are credited to Yuko Oba and Miyako Nishida, with Manami Inose joining for the second season. Yuki Hayashi is composing the music.
The main voice cast from the first season is also expected to reprise their roles, including Shuichiro Umeda as Nio Chirinu, Yohei Azakami as Toshizo Hijikata, Chiaki Kobayashi as Hajime Saitou, and Kensho Ono as Soji Okita. Ryota Takeuchi will return as Kamo Serizawa, whose character will be central to the upcoming arc.
The Blue Miburo Manga and Its Legacy
The Blue Miburo anime is based on the historical samurai manga by Tsuyoshi Yasuda, which began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in October 2021. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga for English release under the title The Blue Wolves of Mibu, with releases starting in Spring 2024. The manga is currently in its second part, titled “Shinsengumi-hen.”
The narrative is set in Kyoto in 1863, a time when Japan was grappling with the arrival of “Black Ships” and the impending collapse of the shogunate. It explores the conflicts between powerful factions and the rise of masterless ronin, painting a vivid picture of a turbulent era that paved the way for the Meiji Restoration.
OceanVeil’s Growing Anime Catalog
OceanVeil’s acquisition of Blue Miburo Season 2 further expands its anime offerings. The platform aims to provide a curated experience for anime fans, showcasing both new titles and acting as a vault for various series. While Crunchyroll streamed the first season in various regions, OceanVeil’s simulcast ensures broader access to the continuing story of the Miburo. Fans can look forward to diving into the new season shortly after its Japanese broadcast, continuing Nio’s journey with the fledgling Shinsengumi.
