Toei Animation has officially launched a “Reboot Project” for the World Trigger anime, revealing a teaser video and a new visual. This exciting development confirms that the project will be a complete remake of the anime’s first season, re-adapting the original manga from its initial chapters. Further details are anticipated to be announced at the upcoming Jump Festa ’26 event on December 20.
A Fresh Start: Re-adapting the Manga from Chapter One
The “Reboot Project” is set to create a “completely new anime” titled World Trigger 1st Season, which will meticulously re-adapt the manga starting from its very first chapter. This new adaptation will cover key arcs including the Border Enlistment Arc, the Large-Scale Invasion Arc, and the B-Rank Wars Arc (specifically Rounds 1-4). This approach aims to provide a fresh and potentially more faithful rendition of Daisuke Ashihara’s original work, which has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump Square magazines.
Many fans have expressed optimism for a reboot of the first season, citing the potential for improved pacing, animation, and the opportunity to attract a new audience while re-engaging older fans. The original first season, which ran for 73 episodes from 2014, faced some criticism regarding its pacing and animation quality, particularly when compared to the later, more dynamically animated second and third seasons.
Teaser Video and Visual Offer Glimpse into the Reboot
The recently unveiled 15-second special announcement promo, often referred to as a teaser video, features an alarm announcing a “Gate occurring” before displaying the World Trigger logo alongside the word “REBOOT”. The trailer concludes with the impactful catchphrase, “Gates from another dimension, once again,” and the message “REBOOT Project Launches”.
Accompanying the video is a teaser visual depicting Yuma Kuga, equipped with his Black Trigger, leaping through a city at dusk. These initial glimpses aim to generate excitement for the new production and hint at a renewed visual style.
Continuity with Toei Animation and Returning Voice Cast
Toei Animation, the studio responsible for the previous three seasons of the World Trigger anime, will continue to handle the animation production for the reboot project. This continuity in production studios suggests that while the first season will be remade, the animation quality and style seen in seasons two and three, which were generally well-received, might influence the new adaptation.
The main voice cast from the original anime is expected to return, including Tomo Muranaka as Yuma Kuga, Yuki Kaji as Osamu Mikumo, Yuichi Nakamura as Yuichi Jin, and Nao Tamura as Chika Amatori. The consistency in voice actors will provide a familiar element for long-time fans as they experience the retold story.
Jump Festa ’26: The Hub for New Information
Fans are eagerly awaiting Jump Festa ’26, scheduled for December 20, where more comprehensive details about the World Trigger anime’s “Reboot Project” are slated to be revealed. The event is expected to provide further insights into the production timeline, potential release windows, and perhaps an extended look at the new animation. The announcement was initially teased on December 1 via the anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The World Trigger manga, written by Daisuke Ashihara, began serialization in February 2013. It focuses on the Border Defense Agency protecting Mikado City from invaders known as “Neighbors” who emerge from gates to another dimension. Crunchyroll currently streams the previous three seasons of the anime.
