Fans of the supernatural romantic comedy Dan Da Dan have reason to celebrate, as the anime adaptation has officially confirmed its third season, slated to premiere in 2027. The announcement was made during Jump Festa 2026, where a brand-new key visual was also unveiled, offering a glimpse into the upcoming storyline.
A Look at the New Visual and What It Teases
The newly released key visual for Dan Da Dan Season 3 showcases a distinct purple color scheme, setting it apart from previous promotional art. It features central characters Okarun and Turbo Granny with wide, shocked eyes, looking upwards, while Momo Ayase is positioned below them with a suspicious expression. Intriguingly, the visual also highlights the mysterious girl who emerged from a space kaiju suit at the conclusion of Season 2, hinting at her significant role in the next arc. This suggests the third season will delve deeper into the “Space Globalists Arc,” picking up directly from the end of the “Kaiju Arc.”
Science SARU Returns for Production
Acclaimed animation studio Science SARU will once again be at the helm for Dan Da Dan Season 3, ensuring the continuation of the series’ distinctive animation style and high-energy action. Science SARU is known for its visually dynamic and often experimental work, which has been a hallmark of the Dan Da Dan anime since its inception.
The Dan Da Dan Phenomenon: From Manga to Anime Success
Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dan Da Dan manga, which blends action, romantic comedy, and supernatural thriller elements, began serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app and website in April 2021. The series quickly garnered a dedicated following for its unique premise, vibrant characters, and thrilling battles involving yokai and aliens. As of October 2025, 21 tankōbon volumes of the manga have been released, with a 22nd volume expected in January 2026.
Anime Adaptation Journey
The first season of the Dan Da Dan anime, produced by Science SARU, premiered in October 2024, consisting of 12 episodes. It was widely streamed globally on platforms such as Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu. The second season followed swiftly, debuting in July 2025 and concluding in September 2025 with another 12 episodes. Both seasons received theatrical previews, with DAN DA DAN: First Encounter preceding Season 1 and DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE offering an early look at Season 2. DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE notably earned over $3 million in its North American opening weekend.
The gap between Season 2 and the newly announced Season 3 will be the longest for the anime thus far. This extended production period will allow the source manga to further advance, as it is currently roughly two complete arcs ahead of where the anime’s second season concluded.
Story So Far: A Mix of Occult and Extraterrestrial Encounters
The Dan Da Dan story centers on Momo Ayase, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums who believes in ghosts but not aliens, and her classmate Ken Takakura (nicknamed “Okarun”), an occult fanatic who believes in aliens but denies ghosts. Their playful arguments lead them to separate locations—Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel—where they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that challenge their beliefs.
Amidst these strange encounters, Momo awakens a hidden spiritual power, while Okarun gains a cursed ability. Together, they form an unlikely duo, navigating a world filled with yokai, UFOs, and various otherworldly threats, all while their fateful love story begins to unfold. The series is praised for its genre-blending narrative, balancing humor, romance, and high-stakes supernatural action.
With Science SARU’s continued involvement and the exciting new visual, Dan Da Dan Season 3 is highly anticipated to continue the thrilling adventures of Momo and Okarun when it premieres in 2027.
