K Manga, Kodansha’s official manga platform, has announced it has begun publishing Ippei Nara’s The Daily Life of a Single 29-Year-Old Adventurer (original Japanese title: 29-Sai Dokushin Chūken Bōkensha no Nichijō) in English under the new title An Adventurer’s Daily Grind at Age 29. The announcement was made on Saturday via K Manga’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. This addition brings another popular fantasy series to English-speaking readers through Kodansha’s dedicated digital service.
Unpacking “An Adventurer’s Daily Grind at Age 29”
The manga centers on Shinonome Hajime, a 29-year-old adventurer with extensive experience delving into dungeons. His peaceful life as a resident adventurer in Komai Village takes an unexpected turn during a quest when he encounters a young girl named Rirui (also spelled Lilui) about to be devoured by a slime monster.
Rirui, an orphan abandoned by her parents, has nowhere to go. Unable to abandon her, Hajime decides to take her under his wing, bringing her back to the village. As their awkward yet heartwarming daily life together begins, Hajime soon discovers that Rirui is no ordinary child. The narrative often explores themes of building a new life and found family, with Hajime, despite his strength, being emotionally clumsy, and Rirui, despite her past, being cheerful and direct.
The Manga’s Origins and Serialization
Ippei Nara launched The Daily Life of a Single 29-Year-Old Adventurer in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in January 2016. The series has been compiled into 20 tankōbon volumes as of September 2025, with the 21st volume slated for release in February 2026. The manga is also available on Kodansha’s Japanese manga app, Magazine Pocket.
Anticipated Anime Adaptation
Fans of the manga also have an anime adaptation to look forward to. A television anime series produced by studio Hornets is scheduled to premiere on January 7, 2026, across various Japanese networks including AT-X, Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, BS11, Miyagi TV, and Nagoya TV. Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream the anime, making it accessible to international audiences.
K Manga’s Growing Library for English Readers
K Manga serves as Kodansha’s official platform for distributing its manga titles in English. It launched in the United States on May 10, 2023, initially as a smartphone app, with a website version planned for a later release. The platform aims to provide officially translated, high-quality manga directly from Kodansha’s editorial team, offering a wide array of genres including action, thriller, isekai, romance, and fantasy.
Upon its launch, K Manga featured approximately 400 titles, including 70 ongoing series with simultaneous releases alongside their Japanese counterparts. The platform operates on a model where users can read a limited number of free manga chapters daily, with additional chapters unlockable through a ticket and coin system. This approach allows readers to explore a vast catalog of titles, from established hits like Attack on Titan and Fairy Tail to newer, simultaneously published series.
