In the latest weekend rankings (December 26-28), Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc dropped to the 8th position, while Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 moved to 10th place. Despite these dips, both films have achieved significant commercial success throughout their theatrical runs.
Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Maintains Strong Performance
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, which premiered in Japan on September 19, 2025, has demonstrated remarkable staying power at the box office. The film debuted at number one, a position it held for seven to eight consecutive weekends, marking a strong start for the highly anticipated adaptation.
As of December 30, its cumulative domestic gross surpassed the significant 10 billion yen milestone, reaching 10.01 billion yen (approximately US$63.9 million) from 6.55 million admissions over 103 days. This achievement places it among the top four Japanese films to exceed 10 billion yen in 2025. Globally, the film has grossed over $174.7 million as of December 2025. The movie currently ranks as the 51st highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Continues Record-Breaking Run
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1, released in Japan on July 18, 2025, has been a monumental success, continuing the franchise’s dominance in the anime film landscape. The film shattered opening records, debuting at number one and maintaining that top spot for an impressive nine consecutive weeks.
In its 24th weekend, the film was ranked 10th, indicating its longevity in theaters. As of December 29, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 has accumulated a domestic gross of 38.71 billion yen (approximately US$248 million) over 163 days. This makes it the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 in Japan, and it holds the second position in Japan’s all-time box office rankings, just behind its predecessor, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, which earned 40.75 billion yen. The film has also achieved international success, becoming the first Japanese production to surpass ¥1 trillion worldwide (approximately $6.7 billion).
A Strong Year for Anime at the Japanese Box Office
The performances of both Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 underscore a historic year for anime films at the Japanese box office. Anime features accounted for half of the annual Top 10 domestic films, with three animated features clearing ¥100 billion (about $670 million) and four films, including these two, surpassing the 10 billion yen mark. The continued presence of these films in the top rankings, even after several months, highlights the enduring popularity and significant cultural impact of anime in Japan and worldwide.
