Fans of the fantasy-adventure anime “The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows” (also known by its Japanese title, Isshun de Chiryou shiteita no ni Yakudatazu to Tsuihousareta Tensai Chiyushi, Yami Healer to shite Tanoshiku Ikiru) have reason to celebrate, as a second season has been officially announced. The news was revealed at the GA Fes 2026 event held today, Sunday, January 4, 2026, confirming the continuation of Zenos’s journey as a “dark healer”.
GA Fes 2026 Confirms Series Continuation
The announcement was a highlight of the GA Fes 2026: GA 20th Anniversary event, where an announcement promo and a new visual for the upcoming season were unveiled. Studio Macaria, which handled the animation production for the first season, is expected to return, with Jo Yoshizaki once again at the helm as director. The initial season, which garnered a dedicated fanbase, aired for 12 episodes in Spring 2025. Crunchyroll simulcasted the first season globally, making it accessible to a wide international audience.
The Story of Zenos, the Genius Healer in the Shadows
“The Brilliant Healer’s New Life in the Shadows” follows the pragmatic young man Zenos, a self-taught genius healer who is unjustly ostracized and kicked out of his adventurer party despite his exceptional abilities. After being mistreated, Zenos decides to forge a new path, opening an underground clinic where he can help those in need, operating from the shadows as a “dark healer”. His unique healing prowess quickly spreads word of his existence, drawing him into various conflicts which he skillfully resolves, even uniting disparate races through his medical talents.
The anime is based on the popular light novel series written by Sakaku Hishikawa and illustrated by Daburyu. The series originally began serialization online on the Shosetsuka ni Naro platform in November 2020, before being acquired by SB Creative for print publication under their GA Novel imprint in October 2021. As of March 2025, eight volumes of the light novel have been released. The franchise also includes a manga adaptation by Ten Junoichi, which launched in January 2022, and a webtoon adaptation announced in March 2024. Both the light novel and manga are licensed in English by J-Novel Club.
Returning Cast and Production Team
The main voice cast members from the first season are expected to reprise their roles for the second season. Shogo Sakata voices the protagonist, Zenos, with Yoko Hikasa as Carmilla, Miharu Hanai as Lily, Sayaka Kikuchi as Loewe, and Mashiro Hitaka as Lynga. The production staff for the first season included Jo Yoshizaki as director, Daisho Miyagi on script, and Denpuougi for character design. Harumi Fuki composed the music, Hiroshi Goroku served as Art Director, and Hiroto Morishita handled Sound Direction.
Anticipation for Season 2 Release
While the official announcement has confirmed the development of a second season, a specific release date has not yet been provided. However, given the conclusion of the first season in June 2025, speculation points to a possible release window in Spring 2026, allowing ample time for production to deliver high-quality animation and storytelling. Fans are eagerly awaiting further updates and potential teasers for the continuation of Zenos’s underground clinic adventures and the expansion of his brilliant, albeit shadowed, life.
