The official X/Twitter account for Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers, the highly anticipated sequel to the classic Yoroiden Samurai Troopers series, announced today that veteran voice actress Sayaka Kinoshita has been cast as Nasti Yagyu. The character of Nasti, who appeared in the original series, will return in the new anime as a key figure commanding the Defense Special Task Force (DST). The casting news comes as the anime premiered on Tuesday on Tokyo MX and is streaming on various platforms.
Sayaka Kinoshita Takes on the Role of Nasti Yagyu
Sayaka Kinoshita steps into the role of Nasti Yagyu, a character familiar to long-time fans of the Samurai Troopers franchise. In the original series, Nasti was an indispensable assistant to her grandfather, Professor Konosuke Yagyu, and a crucial ally to the initial team of Samurai Troopers. Thirty-five years later, in Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers, she is depicted as a witness who fought alongside the first Samurai Troopers and now leads the Defense Special Task Force (DST), continuing the battle against evil. The character was originally voiced by Kaori Kusakabe.
Kinoshita is a prominent Japanese voice actress known for her versatile work across anime, video games, and dubbing foreign media. Her extensive filmography includes notable roles such as the energetic hero Mirko (Rumi Usagiyama) in My Hero Academia, Elias Ainsworth (female form) in The Ancient Magus’ Bride, and Secretoru in Delicious Party♡Precure. She is also recognized for being the official Japanese dubbing voice for Kristen Stewart, particularly as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga series, and Nina Dobrev in The Vampire Diaries.
Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers: A New Chapter
Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers serves as an official sequel to the 1988-1989 hero action TV anime Yoroiden Samurai Trooper, which was released in the West as Ronin Warriors. The new series picks up decades after the original, as the seal to the demon world has been broken, leading to a new invasion of Earth by demons. Five young samurai warriors are brought together to defend humanity against this renewed threat.
The new anime officially premiered on Tuesday on the Tokyo MX channel and is also available for streaming on platforms such as U-NEXT, Anime Hōdai, and d Anime Store. Kansai TV and BS11 are also broadcasting the series. The production is being handled by Sunrise, with Yōichi Fujita (Gintama, Mr. Osomatsu) directing. Shōgo Mutō (Crows Zero) is overseeing and writing the series scripts, and Hajime Yatate, the collective penname for Sunrise’s creative staff, is credited with the original story. Character designs are provided by Yūhei Murota (Love Live!), and Hideo Okamoto, the original armor designer, returns to work on the new “Yoroigear” designs.
The main cast for Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers includes Hiiro Ishibashi as Gai, Junya Enoki as Kaito Uesugi/Sōkyū no Kaito, Ayumu Murase as Musashi Hōjō/Suiren no Musashi, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Yamato Hōjō/Kōya no Yamato, and Kentarō Kumagai as Shion Ishida/Senkō no Shion. The series is planned for two Blu-ray Disc releases, with volumes 1-2, each containing six episodes for a total of 12, scheduled to ship on April 22 and May 27, respectively.
