The upcoming anime adaptation of Natsume Kurusu’s light novel series, “A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans,” has announced new cast members and revealed its theme song artists, building anticipation for its January 2026 premiere. The announcements were made during the MF Bunko J’s Fall School Festival 2025 special livestream.
Expanded Roster Welcomes Five New Voice Actresses
Five prominent voice actresses are joining the cast, bringing to life additional demi-human students in Rei Hitoma’s peculiar classroom. The newly revealed cast members and their respective roles include:
- Manami Numakura as Karin Ryuzaki
- Misato Fukuen as Machi Nezu
- Reina Ueda as Neneko Kurosawa
- Yui Ishikawa as Aoi Wakaba
- Yui Horie as Maki Okonogi
These additions will join the previously announced main cast, which features Toshiki Masuda as the titular misanthrope teacher, Rei Hitoma. His students include Sora Amamiya as Kyoka Minazuki, Saori Onishi as Isaki Ohgami, Maria Naganawa as Sui Usami, and Rui Tanabe as Tobari Haneda.
Theme Song Artists Set the Sonic Tone
The anime’s musical landscape will be shaped by popular artists. Masayoshi Oishi is slated to perform the opening theme song, titled “Ningen” (Human).
For the ending theme, “Ningen COME TRUE,” the voices of the main female cast members—Sora Amamiya, Saori Onishi, Maria Naganawa, and Rui Tanabe—will be featured in their respective character roles.

Slated for a January 2026 broadcast, the “A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans” anime is being produced by studio asread. Akira Iwanaga is directing the series, with Katsuhiko Takayama handling the series composition, and Maiko Okada designing the characters. The music for the anime is being composed by Makoto Miyazaki.
The story, based on the light novel written by Natsume Kurusu and illustrated by Sai Izumi, revolves around Rei Hitoma, a self-proclaimed misanthrope. After taking a teaching job in the mountains for a quiet life, he discovers his school is for demi-human girls who aspire to become full-fledged human beings. His class includes a diverse group of students, such as a dragon, a mouse, and a black cat, whom he must guide in understanding humankind. Yen Press licenses the light novel series for English publication.
