The highly anticipated anime adaptation of A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans (Jingai Kyoushitsu no Ningengirai Kyoushi) has released its main promotional video, officially announcing its premiere date of January 10, 2026, in Japan. The new trailer offers a deeper look into the world of the Shiranui Private High School and its peculiar students.
New Trailer Highlights Characters and Opening Theme
The latest main promotional video for A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans was unveiled during an online advance screening for Episode 1 and a live stream with the voice cast on December 14. The trailer showcases more of the demi-human students striving to become fully human, along with their misanthropic teacher, Rei Hitoma. It also features the opening theme song, “Ningen” (Human), performed by Masayoshi Ōishi.
Additional Cast Members Revealed
In addition to the previously announced main cast, the latest promotional video and recent announcements have introduced more voice actors joining the series. These include Manami Numakura as Karin Ryuzaki, Misato Fukuen as Machi Nezu, Reina Ueda as Neneko Kurosawa, Yui Ishikawa as Aoi Wakaba, and Yui Horie as Maki Okonogi. The teachers of Shiranui High School have also been cast: Honoka Inoue as Mirai Haruna, Kazuhiko Inoue as Shiro Karasuma, Makoto Ishii as Satoru Hoshino, and Ai Kayano as Yuki Saotome.
Delving into the Plot of A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans
The anime series is based on the light novel series written by Nijisanji VTuber Kurusu Natsume and illustrated by Sai Izumi. Yen Press, the English publisher of the light novels, describes the story focusing on Rei Hitoma, a self-professed misanthrope scarred by past trauma. Seeking a tranquil teaching job in the mountains, Hitoma discovers his new school is exclusively for demi-humans, including a mermaid, a werewolf, a rabbit, and a bird, all aspiring to become human. His reluctant duty is to teach them about humankind, an ironic task that may lead him to rediscover something about himself. The story is described as a comedy-drama and slice-of-life series set in a unique school environment.
The Journey to Becoming Human
The core premise explores the unique challenges and humorous situations that arise from a misanthropic teacher guiding students who admire and wish to emulate humanity. The narrative is not an alternate world or reincarnation tale but rather a straightforward story about a peculiar school and its students’ earnest endeavors. The original light novel series began in June 2022 and has four volumes as of February 2025. A manga adaptation by Atsu Benino was also serialized, concluding in July 2025.
Production Team and Voice Cast
The anime is being produced by studio asread, with Akira Iwanaga (known for The Morose Mononokean) directing the series. Katsuhiko Takayama (The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash) is handling the series composition, and Maiko Okada (Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory) is designing the characters. Makoto Miyazaki (One-Punch Man) is composing the music.
