The official website for the anime adaptation of Kazune Kawahara’s A Star Brighter Than the Sun (Taiyō Yori mo Mabushii Hoshi) manga began streaming its first promotional video on Friday, revealing an October 2, 2025 debut date on the TBS channel in Japan. Alongside the new visual and trailer, the announcement also unveiled additional cast members and the opening theme song artist for the highly anticipated shojo romance series.
Cast Shines Brightly with New Additions
Minori Fujidera and Yūki Ono lead the main cast, previously announced in April. Fujidera will voice Sae Iwata, the protagonist who navigates her evolving feelings for her childhood friend, while Ono takes on the role of Kōki Kamishiro.
The latest reveal introduces several new voice actors joining the starry ensemble:
- Hina Yomiya as Hisui Onodera
- Taito Ban as Yota Ayukawa
- Mutsumi Tamura as Mio Kagawa
- Ryota Osaka as Yushin Izawa
These additions promise to bring further depth and personality to the supporting characters in this high school love story.
First Promotional Video and Theme Song Reveal
The newly released promotional video offers fans a first look at the animation and the dynamic between Sae and Kōki. The trailer also confirms that Motohiro Hata will perform the anime’s opening theme song, titled “Stellar Days.” This marks a significant step for the anime, which was initially announced in February 2025. The anime also held its world premiere at Anime Expo in July.
Creative Team and Manga Background
Directing the series at Studio KAI is Aya Kobayashi, known for her work as a key animator on Vinland Saga and Spy×Family. Yasuhiro Nakanishi, recognized for his scripts in Kaguya-sama: Love is War, is handling the series composition. Jinfeng Zeng is responsible for character designs, while Natsumi Tabuchi and Miki Sakurai are composing the music.
A Star Brighter Than the Sun is based on Kazune Kawahara’s popular shojo manga, which began serialization in Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine in June 2021. VIZ Media has licensed the manga for English publication, describing the story as follows: “Sae and Kōki have been friends since childhood. One fateful day at the end of middle school, she has a revelation: Koki has grown up! Now they’re in high school, and she has another revelation: she has feelings for Kōki! But Sae isn’t the only girl who does… The question is, who does Kōki have feelings for?!” The manga has garnered critical acclaim, including a win at the 14th an an Manga Award in 2023.
