The highly anticipated CG anime short, Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, a sequel to Yohei Kameyama’s Milky☆Highway, is set to premiere on July 3, 2025. The official Instagram account revealed a second trailer, a new key visual, additional cast members, and the theme song for the upcoming anime. Here’s everything you need to know before you hop on board!

What’s the Story?

Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express follows the misadventures of Chiharu, a super human, and Makina, a cyborg, who were arrested for breaking space traffic laws. As punishment, they are sentenced to community service, cleaning the “Milky☆Subway,” an old interplanetary train. However, what starts as a simple task quickly spirals into chaos when the train suddenly takes off into deep space. Now, Chiharu and Makina, along with a crew of misfit fellow offenders, must navigate this high-speed space-train spectacle with no plans and zero strategy, relying solely on pure momentum.

Who’s Behind the Anime?

  • Director, Writer, Character Designer, and Producer: Yohei Kameyama
  • Animation Production: Shin-Ei Animation and Titan Industries

Yohei Kameyama, the creative force behind the original Milky☆Highway short, is once again taking on multiple roles, including director, screenwriter, character designer, and producer. His dedication and unique vision have garnered attention both in Japan and internationally.

The sequel brings a host of new voice actors to enrich the dynamic of the Milky☆Subway. The newly announced cast members include:

Theme Song: A Retro Throwback

The anime’s theme song is “Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!” (Fly to the Galaxy!), originally performed by the girl group Candies in 1977. This retro tune adds a nostalgic and energetic vibe to the space-train adventure.

Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express will premiere on July 3 on the Tokyo MX channel at 9:54 p.m. JST. For international viewers, the anime will be simultaneously streamed on YouTube with dubbed versions in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, French, Hindi, and Russian.
