Anashin’s popular shojo manga, How I Met My Soulmate (Unmei no Hito ni Deau Hanashi), will be moving from Kodansha’s Dessert magazine to the pixiv-developed manga app “Palcy” this October. The transition was announced recently by the official X/Twitter account for Dessert magazine.
From Print to Digital: A New Chapter for the Romance Series
How I Met My Soulmate first began serialization in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine in April 2021. The series has gained a following for its college romance story, exploring themes of destiny and finding “the one.” Seven tankōbon volumes have been collected as of June 2025. Kodansha USA also licenses the manga for English release.
The move to Palcy signifies a growing trend of manga migrating to digital platforms to reach a wider, app-savvy audience. Palcy, a joint venture between Kodansha and pixiv, is a prominent manga app known for offering a diverse range of shojo, josei, and even Boys’ Love (BL) manga from various Kodansha magazines, including Dessert itself.
About How I Met My Soulmate
Authored and illustrated by Anashin, How I Met My Soulmate introduces readers to Yuuki, a 20-year-old college sophomore who, upon moving to Tokyo, yearns to find her soulmate. Growing disheartened by her search, Yuuki reluctantly attends a club with a friend, where she encounters Iori, a man whose bleached hair and somewhat intimidating demeanor belie a deeper story. The manga delves into whether destiny has further plans for Yuuki and Iori’s connection.
The series has received critical acclaim, winning the Women’s Comic Prize at the 2025 Digital Comic Awards, and was nominated for the 49th Kodansha Manga Award in the shojo category in 2025.
Understanding Dessert Magazine and Palcy App
Dessert Magazine: A Shojo Staple
Dessert is a monthly Japanese shojo/josei manga magazine published by Kodansha. Launched in 1996 as a successor to Shōjo Friend, Dessert has been a long-standing platform for romance and relationship-oriented manga, targeting a readership primarily in their late teens to early twenties. Notable past and current series serialized in Dessert include My Boyfriend in Orange, A Condition Called Love, and A Sign of Affection.
Palcy App: The Digital Frontier
Palcy (パルシィ) is a popular manga application developed by Kodansha and pixiv, designed to provide daily access to Kodansha’s extensive library of shojo and josei manga. The app allows users to read manga through various methods, including daily serializations, weekly updates, and “all-story-open” campaigns where entire series can be read using free tickets. It also features original manga exclusive to the platform and offers additional content like horoscopes and fashion magazine excerpts. Palcy is recognized for its user-friendly interface and for making it easy for readers to collect free tickets to access content.
The move of How I Met My Soulmate to Palcy highlights the evolving landscape of manga distribution, with digital platforms playing an increasingly vital role in reaching and engaging readers.
