Delay Confirmed for Highly Anticipated Rom-Com
The television anime adaptation of Iwatobineko’s popular manga, The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife (Tōmei Otoko to Ningen Onna: Sonouchi Fūfu ni Naru Futari), has officially been delayed, with its debut now set for 2026. The series was initially slated for a 2025 release. This announcement was made on Thursday by the anime’s staff, who also revealed the main cast and production team.
The Journey to the Screen
The news of a TV anime adaptation for The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife first broke in November 2024, generating considerable excitement among fans of the romantic comedy manga. At the time, a 2025 premiere was anticipated, with a teaser visual and commemorative illustration from the manga’s creator, IWATOBINEKO, released to mark the announcement. The manga, which began as a webcomic on IWATOBINEKO’s X (formerly Twitter) account in March 2021 before being serialized by Futabasha, has gained a dedicated following. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English version of the manga, making it accessible to a wider international audience.
A Glimpse into the Story
The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife tells the endearing and unique love story of Yakou Shizuka, a quiet, bashful, and blind woman, and her boss, Tounome, who is invisible. Yakou works at Tounome’s detective agency, where his invisibility is a distinct advantage for their profession. However, his special ability has no effect on Yakou, who, despite her blindness, always senses his presence. Charmed by her unique perception, Tounome becomes determined to win her over. The series navigates their budding office romance, often watched over by their quirky coworkers, adding layers of humor and warmth to their evolving relationship.
Key Talent Behind the Adaptation
Despite the delay, fans can now look forward to learning more about the production team bringing this beloved story to life. Mitsuho Seta, known for their work as a scriptwriter for Solo Camping for Two and a key animator for BELLE, is helming the series as director and overseeing the series scripts. Project No.9 is the animation studio responsible for the series, a studio recognized for its previous works. Character designs are being handled by Kairi Unabara, whose portfolio includes Witch Hat Atelier. Yōichi Kadono is credited for “suits supervision,” and Nozomi Nakatani (Non Non Biyori Repeat, Peach Boy Riverside) is the sound director at Bit Grooove Promotion. The musical score will be composed by Ruka Kawada, known for her contributions to Isekai Quartet and Is the order a rabbit?.
In terms of voice talent, Yōhei Azakami will voice Akira Tounome, the titular invisible man, while Yuka Nukui will portray Shizuka Yakou, his soon-to-be wife. A new teaser video has also been revealed by Pony Canyon, offering fans a fresh look at the upcoming adaptation.
The shift to a 2026 release date, while an extension of the wait, provides the production team with additional time to ensure a faithful and high-quality adaptation of IWATOBINEKO’s charming romantic comedy. Fans will undoubtedly remain eager to see the unique love story of Yakou and Tounome unfold on screen.
