Two prominent anime films, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc and the first Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle film, have demonstrated continued strong performance at the Japanese box office. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc surged to the fourth spot in its 14th weekend, while the Demon Slayer film re-entered the top ten, landing at eighth place in its 23rd weekend, according to the latest figures from December 19-21, 2025.
Chainsaw Man’s “Reze Arc” Continues Strong Hold
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, which premiered in Japan on September 19, 2025, has shown remarkable staying power. In its 14th weekend, the film earned 147 million yen (approximately US$937,000) from 99,900 admissions, climbing five spots from its previous ninth-place ranking to reclaim fourth place. This impressive resurgence highlights sustained audience interest in the adaptation of the popular manga arc.
The cumulative domestic gross for Reze Arc now stands at a significant 9.8 billion yen (US$62.46 million) from 6.41 million admissions. This performance has allowed it to surpass Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween (2022), entering the top 51 in Japan’s all-time box office ranking. Globally, the film has achieved a worldwide gross of $175 million as of November 23, 2025, solidifying its position as one of the year’s successful anime theatrical releases. Special “Memorial Collection” booklets, featuring interviews with creator Tatsuki Fujimoto and previously unpublished illustrations, began distribution on December 20, likely contributing to its renewed box office traction.
Demon Slayer’s “Infinity Castle” Returns to Prominence
The first Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle film, which debuted on July 18, 2025, has made a comeback to Japan’s top ten, securing the eighth position in its 23rd weekend after a two-weekend absence. This film, a direct sequel to the anime’s fourth season and an adaptation of the manga’s Infinity Castle arc, has maintained a dominant presence at the box office since its release.
The Infinity Castle film boasts a staggering cumulative domestic gross of 38.61 billion yen (US$246.2 million) over 157 days. While an immense success, it still aims to surpass the record set by its predecessor, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which earned 40.75 billion yen. The film needs an additional 2.14 billion yen (US$13.65 million) to achieve this feat.
Historically, the Infinity Castle film set new records by becoming the fastest film in Japan to reach 10 billion yen, doing so within eight days of its release. It further cemented its legacy by surpassing Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s critically acclaimed Spirited Away to become the second-highest-grossing film of all time in Japan. Its global impact is equally significant, as it stands as the highest-earning anime film and the highest-earning Japanese film of all time worldwide, with over 89 million tickets sold and a total gross of approximately 106.37 billion yen (US$685 million) globally as of November 16. To keep audiences engaged, “Supplemental Pamphlet: Demon Slayer Corps Edition” featuring key animation drawings, has been distributed to the first 500,000 attendees in Japanese theaters since December 20.
