Aniplex of America has unveiled a new clip for “Clockwork Girl,” the highly anticipated first installment of the original anime film series Virgin Punk, as it gears up for a limited theatrical release in the United States on November 11 and 13. The reveal provides fans with a closer look at the action-packed and visually stunning world crafted by director Yasuomi Umetsu and animation studio Shaft.
Virgin Punk: A Dive into a Dystopian 2099
Set in the year 2099, Virgin Punk plunges viewers into a future where humanity has overcome injuries and illnesses through advanced “Medical Android Technology” known as Somadea. However, this technological leap has also given rise to a new wave of crime, with individuals misusing Somadea for illicit purposes, granting them superhuman abilities. To combat this escalating threat, the government has instituted a “Bounty Hunter System,” empowering registered civilians to neutralize wanted criminals who possess illegal Somadea, dead or alive, in exchange for substantial rewards.
The narrative centers on Ubu Kamigori, a formidable bounty hunter who navigates this unforgiving world alone, driven by her profession rather than a sense of social justice. Her life takes an unforeseen turn when she encounters Mr. Elegance, a figure from her past, setting in motion a chain of events that unravels her destiny. The film is described as a suspenseful action tale interwoven with “mechanical girls and the smell of gunpowder smoke.”
U.S. Theatrical Screenings and Exclusive Content
In partnership with Fathom Entertainment, Aniplex of America will bring “Clockwork Girl” to theaters nationwide. The theatrical run will feature two distinct viewing options: the original Japanese audio with English subtitles will be screened on November 11, followed by an English-dubbed version on November 13. Each screening will also include a “never-before-seen featurette exploring the creation” of the anime, offering audiences a unique behind-the-scenes look at the ambitious project.
