The Story So Far: A High School Romance Amidst Change
Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You centers on Mizuho Nishino, a high school second-year navigating the complexities of adolescence and budding romance. The first season, which premiered in January 2025, chronicled Mizuho’s “worst 17th birthday ever” in 2020, marked by her parents forgetting the occasion, a crush rejecting her, and school events being canceled due to a new infectious disease. Her life takes an unexpected turn when her childhood friend, Kizuki, suddenly confesses his love, challenging her perception of their long-standing friendship.
The narrative explores Mizuho’s struggle to reconcile her desire to maintain their friendships with her evolving feelings, especially as other friends also begin to reveal their romantic interests. The manga, written and illustrated by Haruka Mitsui, began serialization in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi shōjo manga magazine in November 2020. As of August 2025, 12 tankōbon volumes have been released. The anime’s second season is confirmed to thoroughly depict the story all the way to its conclusion.
