The manga adaptation of Ascendance of a Bookworm‘s second part, illustrated by Suzuka, is slated to conclude with its 13th volume. The final volume is expected to ship on September 15.
The Ascendance of a Bookworm series, known in Japan as Honzuki no Gekokujō – Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen, is a popular “biblio-fantasy” light novel series written by Miya Kazuki. Suzuka has been serializing the manga on TO Books’ Corona EX website.
J-Novel Club is the publisher releasing the manga in English. They describe the first volume of Part 2 as Myne successfully negotiating with the temple to become an apprentice blue shrine maiden, gaining noble-like treatment and access to a book room. However, her new life in the temple is fraught with challenges due to its status-based structure and problematic attendants, forcing her to contend with society to enjoy her books peacefully.
The original light novel series by Miya Kazuki began on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” website in 2013 and concluded its web novel run in 2017. The main print series, illustrated by You Shiina, finished with its 33rd volume (volume 12 of Part 5) in December 2023. The entire novel series has achieved over 12 million copies in circulation, including digital copies. A spin-off story, Hannelore no Kizokuin Gonensei, launched on the same website in 2017 and is ongoing.
While Suzuka illustrated the manga adaptations for Part 1 and Part 2 of Ascendance of a Bookworm, other artists are responsible for subsequent parts: Ryō Namino is drawing the adaptation of Part 3, and Hikaru Katsuki is drawing the adaptation of Part 4. J-Novel Club is also releasing the light novels and various manga adaptations in English.
