Fans of the hit series Assassination Classroom can rejoice, as a new anime film titled Gekijōban Ansatsu Kyōshitsu Minna no Jikan (Assassination Classroom the Movie: Everybody’s Time) has been officially announced for a theatrical release in Japan on March 20, 2026. The movie is set to adapt previously unanimated stories and character-centric chapters from Yusei Matsui’s original manga, offering new content to the beloved franchise.
The announcement comes as part of the anime adaptation’s 10th-anniversary celebration, promising to delve into material that was omitted during the original television series run.
A Deep Dive into Previously Unanimated Manga Content
Unlike previous cinematic endeavors for the series, Minna no Jikan will not be a recap of existing events. Instead, the film will focus on “episodes that were not included in the original anime series,” making it a fresh and highly anticipated addition for long-time followers. This approach aims to fill in narrative gaps and provide deeper insights into the world and characters of Class 3-E.
Some of the fan-speculated storylines that could be included are:
- Maehara’s development in “Retaliation Time.”
- Sugaya’s artistic side in “Art Time.”
- Kataoka and Terasaka’s swimming lessons in “Swimming Time.”
- Takebayashi’s arc in “Ruler Time: 2nd Hour.”
- Lighthearted seasonal stories such as “Summertime” and “Drowned Time.”
These chapters, while not critical to the main assassination plot, are known for adding significant character depth and the unique blend of humor and slice-of-life elements that Class 3-E is famous for.
Assassination Classroom’s Enduring Legacy
The Assassination Classroom manga, written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui, was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2012 to 2016. It garnered immense popularity, selling over 27 million copies in circulation by October 2023. The manga’s success led to a highly acclaimed anime television adaptation by Lerche, which aired from January 2015 to June 2016, spanning two seasons with a total of 47 episodes. The anime’s widespread positive reception significantly boosted manga sales and solidified the series’ place as a modern classic.
Previous Cinematic Ventures
This upcoming film is not the first time Assassination Classroom has appeared on the big screen. In 2016, fans were treated to Assassination Classroom the Movie: 365 Days, a recap film that included an original epilogue featuring adult Nagisa and Karma reflecting on their past. Additionally, the franchise saw two live-action film adaptations, with the first released in 2015 and its sequel, Assassination Classroom: Graduation, in 2016. While these past films largely revisited familiar ground, Minna no Jikan promises a different experience by bringing entirely new (to the anime) material to life.
Part of a Wider Anniversary Celebration
The announcement of Minna no Jikan is strategically timed as part of the series’ 10th-anniversary campaign. This celebration has also included a special rebroadcast of the anime earlier in 2025, featuring new opening and ending theme songs. The renewed interest signals a conscious effort to both re-engage existing fans with nostalgic content and attract new viewers to the beloved story of Koro-sensei and Class 3-E.
The anime is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll, allowing both veteran fans and newcomers to revisit the adventures of the iconic tentacled teacher before the new film’s release. With the 2026 anime slate already looking strong with titles like Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, and Hell’s Paradise Season 2, Assassination Classroom: Minna no Jikan is poised to be another highly anticipated addition to the year’s anime offerings.
