The popular anime series, Blue Miburo, is set to return with its second cour (quarter of a year), and a new opening theme song artist has been announced. Umeda Cypher will be performing the new opening theme song titled “OOKAMI.” The song is produced by dance/electronic music artist banvox. This announcement comes as anticipation builds for the continuation of the historical action series.

New Opening and Ending Themes

The anime’s staff had previously revealed that the band osage would perform the new ending theme song, “Fragment“. With both the opening and ending themes refreshed, the second part of Blue Miburo promises a renewed listening experience to accompany the unfolding story. The first opening theme song for the series, which aired in the fall of 2024, was “Ao” (Blue) by the band Spyair. The first ending theme was “Unbreakable” by The Jet Boy Bangerz.

Umeda Cypher Takes the Lead

The selection of Umeda Cypher marks a significant shift in the musical direction for the series’ opening sequence. The artist’s style, combined with the production of banvox, suggests a potentially different soundscape compared to the first opening. This change in music could reflect the evolving narrative and tone of the second part of the anime.

Second Cour Details

The second cour of Blue Miburo is set to start airing on January 11, 2025. Fans can expect new developments in the story of Nio and the Miburo as they navigate the turbulent times of 1863 Japan. The series is directed by Kumiko Habara at Maho Film, with Kenta Ihara handling series composition. The character designs are provided by Yuko Oba and Miyako Nishida, with music by Yuki Hayashi.

About Blue Miburo

Blue Miburo is an anime adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Tsuyoshi Yasuda. The manga is serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine. In English, the manga is licensed by Kodansha USA Publishing under the title The Blue Wolves of Mibu. The story follows Nio, an orphan who gets caught up in the political turmoil of the late shogunate period. Nio meets members of the Miburo, including Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soji, who later become the famous Shinsengumi. Nio decides to join their cause in the hopes of creating a better world.

Synopsis

The story is set in 1863, as the shogunate’s power wanes and Japan teeters on the brink of major change. Amid the chaos, Nio meets Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Souji, central figures who are part of the Miburo, a group of ronin who later become known as the Shinsengumi. Inspired by their ideals, Nio joins their fight to defend the city. However, with betrayals and reversals happening frequently, Nio must try and remain true to his conscience.

Production Details

The anime adaptation is produced by Maho Film and has been available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The series premiered in Japan on October 19, 2024. Blue Miburo is planned to run for two consecutive cours, which is approximately a half-year run. The series is known for its action, historical context, and character-driven narrative.

Streaming and Availability

Viewers can stream Blue Miburo on Crunchyroll. The series is available internationally with a slight delay of 30 minutes after the initial broadcast in Japan. For those without access to Crunchyroll, the anime is also available on Amazon Prime Video, though with a four-day delay from the original air date.

Manga

The original manga series by Tsuyoshi Yasuda has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since October 2021. The first part of the manga concluded in April 2024, with the second part, “Shinsengumi Arc,” starting in the same month. This indicates a continuation of the story in the manga as well, aligning with the anime’s second cour.

The Impact

The anime series Blue Miburo has garnered attention for its historical setting and engaging characters. The second cour, with its fresh opening and ending themes, is highly anticipated. The change in musical direction, with the addition of Umeda Cypher and banvox, could give the series a new dynamic. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how these changes enhance the viewing experience. The anime promises to deliver more of the action, drama, and historical intrigue that has made it popular. As the series progresses, viewers can anticipate more character development and plot twists.
