The official website for the “Blue Miburo” TV anime has announced that its highly anticipated second season, subtitled “Serizawa Assassination Arc,” is set to premiere in Japan on December 20, 2025. Accompanying the announcement, a new visual featuring protagonist Chirinu Nio and key members of the Miburo was unveiled, intensifying anticipation for the upcoming historical saga.
Season 2 to Adapt “Serizawa Assassination Arc”
The upcoming second season will delve into the pivotal “Serizawa Assassination Arc,” a significant narrative arc from Tsuyoshi Yasuda’s original “The Blue Wolves of Mibu” manga. This arc is expected to explore the tumultuous events surrounding Serizawa Kamo, the initial lead commander of the Mibu Roshigumi, commonly known as Miburo. Historically, Serizawa Kamo was assassinated in 1863, a period of immense change in Japan.
First Season’s Run and Production Details
The first season of the “Blue Miburo” anime adaptation, based on Tsuyoshi Yasuda’s historical manga, aired for 24 episodes from October 2024 to March 2025. The production of the second season was confirmed immediately following the conclusion of the first season’s broadcast in Japan.
Maho Film is handling the animation production for the series. The core creative team from the first season will return, with Kumiko Habara serving as director and Kenta Ihara overseeing the series composition. Miyako Nishida and Yūko Ōba are credited with character design, while Yuki Hayashi is composing the music.
Storyline Overview: Nio and the Miburo
“Blue Miburo” is set in Kyoto in 1863, amidst the twilight years of the shogunate, a time marked by significant political upheaval and the decline of the samurai era. The story follows Chirinu Nio, a kind-hearted orphan driven by a fervent desire for justice. His journey begins when he encounters Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soji, members of the Mibu ronin, a group that would later evolve into the renowned Shinsengumi. Inspired by their efforts, Nio joins the Miburo to fight for a better world. Crunchyroll is streaming the series to audiences in various regions outside of Japan.
