The highly anticipated new season of the Ascendance of a Bookworm anime, subtitled “Adopted Daughter of an Archduke,” is officially slated for a Spring 2026 debut. This announcement, initially revealed by Japanese publisher TO Books via their official X (formerly Twitter) account and confirmed on the wrap-around band of the series’ third short-story collection book, has ignited excitement among fans eager to see Myne’s continued journey in her book-scarce world.

A New Chapter for Myne, Now Rozemyne

The upcoming season will adapt “Part 3: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke” of the original light novel series by Miya Kazuki. This arc marks a significant turning point in the narrative. After a pivotal encounter with a noble, the protagonist Myne bids farewell to her family and friends in the lower city, adopting the new name “Rozemyne” as she begins her life as the adopted daughter of Ehrenfest’s archduke.

This transition plunges Rozemyne into the complexities and rigors of archnoble society. Her new life will involve intense training in etiquette and magic, alongside her existing duties as High Bishop and forewoman. Despite the demanding aristocratic environment, her unwavering passion for books remains the driving force of her existence. The synopsis for “Part 3” of the light novel highlights that a key incentive for Rozemyne in this new, challenging phase is the promise of access to the temple’s vast book room, offered as a reward by the High Priest. This next chapter promises to further expand the detailed world of Ehrenfest as the printing industry, a creation of Myne’s ingenuity, continues to grow.

Shift in Animation Production to WIT Studio

A notable change for this new season is the transition of animation production. While the first three seasons of Ascendance of a Bookworm were handled by Ajia-do Animation Works, the “Adopted Daughter of an Archduke” arc will be brought to life by WIT Studio. WIT Studio is renowned for its work on popular series such as Attack on Titan, which has set high expectations for the visual quality and adaptation fidelity of the upcoming season.

Series Background and Previous Seasons

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Japanese title: Honzuki no Gekokujō: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan o Erabiteiraremasen) originated as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2013 before being acquired by TO Books for publication as a light novel series, illustrated by You Shiina. The series chronicles the journey of Urano Motosu, a book-loving college student and aspiring librarian who dies in an accident and is reincarnated as a sickly five-year-old girl named Myne in a medieval world where books are scarce and exclusive to the elite. Driven by her insatiable desire to read, Myne embarks on a mission to create and print books herself.

The anime adaptation has previously aired for three seasons. The first season premiered in October 2019, followed by the second in April 2020, and the third in April 2022. Crunchyroll has streamed all previous seasons, making them accessible to a global audience. The series has also inspired manga adaptations and a musical stage play. The light novel series itself has surpassed 11 million copies in circulation.

The announcement of the new season, particularly with WIT Studio at the helm and delving into “Part 3: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke,” signifies a major evolution for the beloved series, promising fans a fresh perspective and expanded narrative in Spring 2026.
