Bukimi Miki’s popular manga series Shy is officially entering its “last battle,” with the climactic phase set to begin in the next chapter on September 18. The announcement was made in this year’s 41st issue of Akita Publishing’s Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine on Thursday.
The Heroine’s Final Challenge
The “last battle” signifies a pivotal turning point for the series, bringing its overarching narrative towards a conclusion. Fans can anticipate intense developments as the titular hero, Shy, confronts her ultimate challenges.
About the Series: A Timid Hero’s Journey
Shy introduces a world on the brink of a third World War, averted only by the emergence of super-powered individuals from various countries. These heroes ushered in a new era of relative peace. Japan’s representative among these powerful figures is a timid young girl known simply as “Shy.” Despite often grappling with her own shortcomings and anxieties, she possesses the unwavering heart of a true hero, striving to protect the world.
Publication History and Milestones
Bukimi Miki initially launched Shy as a one-shot manga in Weekly Shōnen Champion in January 2017. Due to its popularity, the series began its full serialization in the same magazine in August 2019. The manga’s 30th compiled book volume was released on August 7, with the 31st volume scheduled to ship on October 8. Yen Press is responsible for releasing the English version of the manga, with its 11th volume slated for release on October 28.
Anime Adaptation Success
The series gained further prominence with an anime adaptation, which first premiered in Japan in October 2023. A second season followed, debuting in July 2024 on TV Tokyo and other networks. Both seasons have been streamed by Crunchyroll, which also provides an English dub, making the adventures of Shy accessible to a global audience.
