Japanese rock band Bump of Chicken will perform the ending theme song for the upcoming eighth and final season of the My Hero Academia anime. The band has penned a new song titled “I” specifically for the series’ grand finale.
A Fitting Farewell from a Beloved Band
The announcement was made on Saturday via the official My Hero Academia anime website. Bump of Chicken, known for their numerous hit songs such as “Tentai Kansoku” and “ray,” expressed their honor and excitement, stating they are big fans of My Hero Academia and poured their hearts into creating the ending theme. This marks the band’s second time contributing to a Weekly Shonen Jump anime adaptation, their first being “sailing day” for the 2003 One Piece: Dead End Adventure film, making this a significant collaboration for fans of both the band and the long-running superhero saga.
What to Expect from My Hero Academia: Final Season
The eighth and final season, also referred to as My Hero Academia: Final Season, is set to premiere on October 4, 2025, on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV in Japan. Crunchyroll will be streaming the season outside of Asia as it airs, ensuring global fans can follow the conclusion of Izuku Midoriya’s journey.
The final season will pick up directly after the events of the seventh season, adapting the climactic “Final War Arc” from Kōhei Horikoshi’s original manga series. This arc features the ultimate battles between the Heroes and villains, including the highly anticipated confrontations between Izuku Midoriya and Tomura Shigaraki, and All Might and All For One. The season is expected to cover chapters 399–431 of the manga.
Production Details and Episode Count
Studio Bones is returning to produce the final season, with Kenji Nagasaki as chief director and Naomi Nakayama as director. Yōsuke Kuroda is handling the script supervision, Yoshihiko Umakoshi and Hitomi Odashima are in charge of character designs, and Yūki Hayashi is composing the music.
While an official episode count hasn’t been explicitly stated, industry scheduling suggests the season might consist of around 11 episodes, concluding on December 13, 2025. This shorter run is anticipated as another anime is slated to take over its broadcast slot in late December.
Opening Theme and Previous Collaborations
Joining Bump of Chicken for the final season’s musical offerings, Porno Graffitti will perform the opening theme song titled “The Revo.” Porno Graffitti previously provided “The Day,” the opening theme for the anime’s very first season, bringing a sense of full circle to the series’ musical journey.
Over its extensive run, My Hero Academia has featured a variety of popular artists for its opening and ending themes. For example, the seventh season’s ending theme was “Tsubomi” by Omoinotake.
