The Return of the Night: Season 2 Overview
The second season of Call of the Night officially premiered on July 4, 2025, on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block in Japan. This highly anticipated return was first announced in March 2024, generating significant excitement among fans who had been awaiting a continuation since the first season concluded in September 2022.
Tomoyuki Itamura returns to direct the series at studio LIDEN FILMS, with Michiko Yokote handling the scripts, Haruka Sagawa on character designs, and Yoshiaki Dewa composing the music. The second season is expected to delve deeper into the narrative, including the “Cigarette Case Arc,” and introduces new characters such as Haru Nanakusa, voiced by Maaya Uchida. Creepy Nuts, the musical duo behind the first season’s popular opening and ending themes, also returned to perform the new opening theme “Mirage” and ending theme “Nemure” for Season 2.
Continuing Ko and Nazuna’s Nocturnal Journey
Based on Kotoyama’s recently concluded manga series, Call of the Night follows Ko Yamori, a disillusioned insomniac teenager who finds solace in the night and encounters the enigmatic vampire Nazuna Nanakusa. His desire to become a vampire hinges on his ability to fall in love with Nazuna, setting the stage for their unique and evolving relationship.
The first season, which aired from July to September 2022, consisted of 13 episodes and captivated audiences with its blend of supernatural romance, stylish visuals, and exploration of themes surrounding freedom and connection in the quiet hours of the night. Season 2 picks up on this narrative, with Ko resolved to “like” Nazuna, and Nazuna attempting to make Ko “fall in love” with her, despite her own lack of understanding of what love truly entails. The season also introduces new challenges and mysteries, including Detective Anko Uguisu’s plot to eliminate vampires and the unfolding of Nazuna’s hidden past.
