The Story So Far and What to Expect
Chained Soldier (Japanese title: Mato Seihei no Slave or Slave of the Magic Capital’s Elite Troops) is based on the action-fantasy manga written by Takahiro and illustrated by Yōhei Takemura. The manga began serialization in January 2019 on Shonen Jump+ and has since released 19 volumes, with the latest volume released on September 4, 2025. Yen Press publishes the English version of the manga, with the 12th volume set for release on September 9, 2025, and the 13th on December 16, 2025.
The story is set in a world where mysterious gates to an alternate dimension called “Mato” (Demon City) have appeared across Japan, unleashing dangerous monsters known as Yomotsu Shuuki. The only individuals capable of combating these threats are women who gain unique abilities by consuming “peaches” from Mato. This has led to the formation of the Demon Defense Force, a female-led organization.
The protagonist, Yuuki Wakura, a high school boy, finds himself in Mato and is rescued by Kyouka Uzen, the beautiful commander of the 7th squad of the Demon Defense Force. Kyouka discovers that Yuuki possesses a unique power to enhance the abilities of “peach” users, but to utilize this, he must become her “slave.” The first season, which premiered in January 2024 and ran for 12 episodes, adapted the manga’s initial arcs, covering approximately the first 44 chapters.
Season 2 is expected to continue directly from where the first season left off, picking up from around chapter 45 and likely delving into the “Leaders’ Meeting” arc depicted in Volume 6 of the manga, where all Corps Leaders assemble. It is also anticipated to further explore the Eight Thunder Gods and their growing role, as well as Yuuki’s ongoing battles with the anti-demon corps and his personal quest to restore his sister’s humanity. The upcoming season promises a deeper exploration of the series’ darker themes and complex character dynamics.
