Tokyo, Japan – The popular “Crayon Shin-chan” television anime has announced a new theme song, “Hacha Mecha Wacha life!”, performed by the rising idol group FRUITS ZIPPER. The new opening will debut on October 4, marking the first change in the anime’s opening theme in five years.
This collaboration brings a fresh sound to the long-running series, which last saw a new opening theme in 2020 with Ketsumeishi’s “Superstar.”
FRUITS ZIPPER: Bringing “NEW KAWAII” to the World
FRUITS ZIPPER is a seven-member Japanese idol group formed in 2022 under ASOBISYSTEM’s KAWAII LAB. The group’s concept is to transmit “NEW KAWAII” from Harajuku, a hub of Japanese fashion and individuality, to the world. The group consists of Amane Tsukiashi, Karen Matsumoto, Mana Manaka, Yui Sakurai, Noel Hayase, Luna Nakagawa, and Suzuka Chinzei.
Since their debut with the digital single “Kimi no Akarui Mirai o Oikakete” in April 2022, FRUITS ZIPPER has quickly gained recognition. Their second digital single, “Watashi no Ichiban Kawaī tokoro,” released in April 2022, went viral on TikTok, significantly boosting their popularity. They released their first album, “New Kawaii,” in April 2024 and have held anniversary concerts at the Nippon Budokan. In December, they won the New Artist Award at the 65th Japan Record Awards.
A Legacy of Memorable Theme Songs for Crayon Shin-chan
“Crayon Shin-chan,” based on the manga series by Yoshito Usui, first premiered as an anime in April 1992 and has been a staple of Japanese television, airing every Saturday on TV Asahi. Over its decades-long run, the series has featured numerous memorable opening and ending theme songs that have become synonymous with Shin-chan’s antics.
Previous theme songs have included “Dōbutsuen wa Taihen da” by TUNE’S, the very first opening, and “Ora wa Ninkimono.” The anime’s films also feature popular artists; for instance, the 2024 film “Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Chō Karei! Shakunetsu no Kasukabe Dancers” (Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Magnificent! Scorching Kasukabe Dancers) had its theme song performed by rock band My Hair is Bad.
The introduction of FRUITS ZIPPER’s “Hacha Mecha Wacha life!” promises to continue this tradition, bringing a new energy to the beloved anime as it approaches its new season. The song is set to premiere on October 4, 2025.
