Anime streaming giant Crunchyroll has announced a wave of new additions to its platform, expanding its offerings for the Winter 2026 season and beyond. Fans can look forward to the highly anticipated sequel Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers, the mystery-adventure adaptation The Case Book of Arne, and the original anime film Fureru., alongside other titles. This move further solidifies Crunchyroll’s position as a premier destination for anime enthusiasts worldwide.
Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers Joins the Roster
A major highlight of the new additions is Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers, an official sequel to the beloved 1988 anime series Yoroiden Samurai Trooper, which was known in the West as Ronin Warriors. The original series captivated audiences with its heroic action and armored samurai. The new series, directed by Yoichi Fujita (Gintama, Mr. Osomatsu) with series composition by Shogo Muto (Kamen Rider Build head writer), premiered in Japan on January 6, 2026.
The narrative of Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers continues the saga of an ancient evil spirit, Arago, Emperor of Doom, who vowed revenge a thousand years after his initial defeat. As black clouds envelop Shinjuku and a sinister laugh permeates the air, the world once again faces terror, unprepared for Arago’s return. Hideo Okamoto, the original armor designer for Samurai Troopers, returns to contribute to the new show’s “Yoroigear,” ensuring continuity for long-time fans. Crunchyroll already streams the original Samurai Troopers anime, allowing new viewers to catch up on the lore.
Unraveling Mysteries with The Case Book of Arne
Another exciting addition is The Case Book of Arne, a television anime adaptation of the popular 2017 mystery adventure game by HARUMURASAKI. The series, which began broadcasting in Japan on January 6, 2026, immerses viewers in a gothic horror mystery.
The story centers on Arne Neuntöte, a powerful vampire detective, and Lynn Reinweiß, a nobleman’s daughter with a fascination for vampires. Their paths cross in the mysterious city of “Lügenberg,” where humans and non-humans coexist, as they team up to solve a series of bloody mysteries. Keisuke Ino directs the TV anime at animation studio SILVER LINK., with Murasaki and Keisuke Inoue handling series composition. An English-language version of the original game is available on Steam, providing an opportunity for fans to explore the source material.
The Emotional Depth of Fureru.
Crunchyroll is also adding the original anime film Fureru., a creation from the acclaimed team of director Tatsuyuki Nagai, writer Mari Okada, and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka. This trio is well-known for their emotionally resonant “youth trilogy,” which includes Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, The Anthem of the Heart, and Her Blue Sky.
Fureru. (which translates to “Touch”) premiered in Japan on October 4, 2024. The film tells the story of three childhood friends—Aki, Ryo, and Yuta—who, even at 20 years old and living together in Tokyo, are bound by a mysterious creature named “Fureru.” This creature possesses a telepathy-like power, allowing the friends to hear each other’s inner voices. However, an incident causes this ability to fade, and as another hidden power of “Fureru.” comes to light, their bond of friendship is tested. The film explores themes of friendship and connection, promising a heartfelt experience for viewers.
