Unraveling a Self-Created Dark History
The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess centers on Konoha Satou, a young woman with a peculiar past: her teenage years were spent crafting intricate, self-indulgent fantasy romance fiction. Her life takes an unexpected turn when, after a sudden accident, she finds herself reincarnated into the very world of her own “Dark History.”
The twist? She hasn’t become the heroine, but rather Iana, the story’s most despicable villainess. Remembering every detail of her convoluted plot becomes a matter of life or death for Konoha (now Iana), who must navigate a world she created to avoid the numerous “death flags” leading to her demise. The plot thickens with the appearance of a mysterious stranger from the Lily Kingdom, a character Konoha doesn’t recall writing, raising questions about trust in a world she thought she knew inside and out.
Key Staff and Production Details
The anime adaptation is helmed by director Hiroaki Sakurai, known for his work on The Demon Girl Next Door and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., at Studio DEEN. Mitsutaka Hirota, recognized for his contributions to Edens Zero and Rent-A-Girlfriend, is overseeing the series scripts, ensuring the narrative remains compelling. Character designs are handled by Tomoyo Sawada, while Ryuichi Takada from MONACA is composing the music, promising an immersive auditory experience for viewers.
The series’ opening theme song, “Black Flame,” will be performed by KID PHENOMENON from EXILE TRIBE, while Zerofrom is set to perform the ending theme, “Regene.”
From Manga to Anime: The Source Material
The anime is based on the popular romantic comedy manga series by Akiharu Tōka, which first began serialization in August 2018. To date, 16 volumes of the manga have been released, alongside an additional side story. For Western audiences, Yen Press publishes the English-language version of the series, allowing fans to delve into Konoha Satou’s “Dark History” before or after the anime’s debut.
