The opening theme song, “Tōryanse,” will be performed by Nao Tōyama, who also voices the protagonist, Aoi Tsubaki.
Streaming Availability and Territories
Crunchyroll will stream Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- Season 2 across a broad range of territories, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India. This widespread availability ensures that a global audience can follow Aoi’s journey. Crunchyroll previously streamed the first season of the anime, which is currently available with English subtitles and dubs on the platform.
The Story So Far: A Glimpse into the Afterlife Inn
The series centers on Aoi Tsubaki, a college student who inherited her late grandfather’s ability to see ayakashi, or spirits. Possessing a talent for cooking, Aoi often fed these spirits. Her life takes an unexpected turn when an ogre god, the master of the Tenjin-ya inn in the Hidden Realm (Kakuriyo), appears and demands her hand in marriage to settle her grandfather’s substantial debt.
Refusing the marriage proposal, Aoi instead pledges to work at the Tenjin-ya, an inn for ayakashi, using her culinary skills to pay off the debt. Her human cooking quickly gains popularity among the otherworldly clientele, leading to a series of heartwarming and sometimes perilous encounters as she navigates the fantastical inn and its eccentric residents.
From Light Novel to Anime Phenomenon
Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- is based on the popular light novel series written by Midori Yūma and illustrated by Laruha. The light novels, which ran from 2015 to 2022, span 12 volumes published under Kadokawa’s Fujimi L Bunko imprint.
The franchise also includes two manga adaptations. The first, illustrated by Waco Ioka, began serialization in Kadokawa’s B’s Log Comic in April 2016. A newer manga adaptation by Tsugaru Toba started in Kodansha’s Monthly Shōnen Sirius in January 2023. The popularity of the series, particularly among overseas fans, played a significant role in the decision to produce a second season, with Crunchyroll reportedly urging the studio to continue the series based on high viewership numbers.
The first anime season, produced by GONZO and directed by Yoshiko Okuda, aired for 26 episodes from April to September 2018. Its blend of supernatural elements, traditional Japanese folklore, and comforting food themes resonated strongly with audiences, paving the way for this much-anticipated continuation.
