Crunchyroll has announced the release of the English dub for the popular anime series, “I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time”. The first dubbed episode became available on the streaming platform on Friday, January 24th, much to the delight of fans eagerly awaiting the English version.

The Plot: A Receptionist’s Secret Life

The anime follows the story of Alina Clover, a young woman who takes a job as a receptionist at the Adventurers Guild. She envisions a life of stability, with regular hours and a safe work environment. However, her dream job quickly turns into an overtime nightmare as she’s constantly burdened with paperwork due to adventurers struggling with dungeon bosses.

To avoid the endless paperwork and overtime, Alina takes matters into her own hands. She secretly possesses a unique ability which she uses to defeat the dungeon bosses herself, earning her the moniker “Executioner” for her impressive skills. The plot centers around her efforts to keep her powerful alter-ego hidden from her colleagues and the guild, while trying to maintain the facade of a normal receptionist.

A Twist on the “Quiet Quitting” Trend

The anime cleverly plays on the concept of “quiet quitting,” presenting a unique twist where Alina doesn’t just disengage from work, but instead tackles the core issue herself. Rather than just letting her work pile up, she quietly clears the dungeons, earning the respect and admiration of the adventurers without them knowing her identity.

English Dub Cast and Crew

Crunchyroll has also revealed the English dub cast and staff for the series:

  • Jill Harris as Alina
  • Kamen Casey as Jade
  • Mike Smith as Ganz
  • Sarah Wiedenheft as Laila
  • Dakota Farnsworth as Lowe
  • Kate Bristol as Lululee
  • Spencer Liles as Slay

The English dub is being directed by Manuel Aragon, with Zach Bolton producing. Domonique French is in charge of adaptation, and Jeremy Woods is the engineer.

Production and Original Material

The anime is produced by CloverWorks and directed by Tsuyoshi Nagasawa, known for his work on Clockwork Planet and Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!. Misuzu Chiba is handling the series scripts, while Yoshihiro Nagata and Shinichi Machida are responsible for character designs. Sakura Create is assisting with the animation production.

The anime is based on the light novel series written by Mato Kousaka and illustrated by Gaou. Yen Press has licensed both the light novel and its manga adaptation for English publication. The manga is illustrated by Suzu Yūki.

Themes and Genre

“I May Be a Guild Receptionist” blends the genres of adventure, fantasy, and comedy, with a touch of slice-of-life elements. The anime explores themes of work-life balance, the absurdity of bureaucracy, and the hidden strengths of seemingly ordinary people.

Streaming and Availability

The anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS. The platform is currently streaming the subtitled version alongside the newly released English dub.

Crunchyroll’s Dubbing Efforts

Crunchyroll has been actively expanding its library of English dubbed anime, with “I May Be a Guild Receptionist” being one of the highly anticipated additions. The company is working to shorten the gap between Japanese broadcasts and English dub releases, which has been welcomed by fans. Alongside this release, Crunchyroll has also announced the English dub for One Piece Season 15 Voyage 2 will be available on February 11th.

Fan Reception and Future Episodes

The anime has garnered positive reviews from fans and critics alike, praising its unique premise, engaging characters, and humorous approach to the fantasy genre. The protagonist, Alina, is particularly praised for her relatable struggles and her impressive fighting abilities. The series’ opening theme song is titled “Perfect Day” by 310, and the ending theme is “Ashita no Watashi ni Sachi Are” (May the Future Me Be Happy) by Akari Nanawo.

New episodes of “I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time” are released weekly, with episode 4 set to premiere in Japan on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Most international audiences can watch the episode on Friday, January 31st.

More Dubbed Anime to Come

Crunchyroll has a large line-up of dubbed anime for the Winter 2025 season, which includes series such as Solo Leveling Season 2 and Dragon Ball DAIMA. These announcements highlight Crunchyroll’s commitment to providing high-quality dubbed content for anime fans worldwide, despite some recent delays due to severe weather conditions in Dallas, Texas.
