Anime’s Premise and Source Material
Dekin no Mogura: The Earthbound Mole (also known as Dekin no Mogura) is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Natsumi Eguchi. The manga first began serialization in Kodansha’s Morning magazine in April 2021 and is also available on the Comic Days service. As of July 2025, ten compiled book volumes of the manga have been released.
The story revolves around Momoyuki Mogura, a shadowy figure who has been banned from the afterlife due to an unspecified incident. To regain his entry, he wanders the world, collecting “spirit-possessed will-o’-wisps” in his lantern. However, those who cross paths with him begin to experience peculiar and supernatural occurrences. The narrative particularly follows university students Magi and Yaeko, whose lives take an unusual turn after witnessing a strange incident involving Mogura.
Musical Contributions
The opening theme song for the anime is “Kamidanomi (Plea to God),” performed by Syudou. The ending theme song, “Kensō (Hustle and Bustle),” is performed by Mirin Sheeno and Aile The Shota.
