The Anime’s Narrative and Production
The Disney Twisted-Wonderland anime is based on the original smartphone game, which launched in Japan in March 2020. The game’s concept, scenario, and character designs were handled by Yana Toboso, known for her work on the Black Butler manga. The story centers on a protagonist, Yūken Enma (voiced by Yōhei Azakami in the anime), who is suddenly transported by a magic mirror to the alternate world of Twisted Wonderland and finds himself at the Night Raven College, a prestigious magic training academy.
Takahiro Natori serves as chief director and series script supervisor, with Shin Katagai directing the series at Yumeta Company and Graphinica. Yoichi Kato is credited as the main writer, and Hanaka Nakano and Akane Satō are responsible for character designs. The anime is slated to debut exclusively on Disney+ in October 2025.
