The highly anticipated anime adaptation, Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation, officially premiered its first season, “Episode of Heartslabyul,” on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Fans can now stream the series exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu.
The inaugural season will consist of eight episodes, with new installments released every Wednesday on both streaming platforms. This marks the first time the popular Japanese mobile game, developed by Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan, has received a full anime series.
An Immersive Dive into Night Raven College
Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation brings to life the enchanting and often mischievous world of Night Raven College. The story centers on protagonist Yūken Enma, a Tokyo high schooler who is unexpectedly transported through a magic mirror to this prestigious magic training academy in the alternate world of Twisted-Wonderland. Devoid of his own magical abilities, Yu (Yūken) must navigate a realm teeming with aspiring magicians, many of whom are inspired by iconic Disney villains, while trying to find a way back home.
The Premiere Arc: “Episode of Heartslabyul”
The first season, “Episode of Heartslabyul,” focuses on the Heartslabyul Dormitory, which draws its inspiration from Alice in Wonderland. The main visual for this season features Yūken alongside Heartslabyul Dorm Leader Riddle Rosehearts, Grim, and other key members of the dormitory. Viewers will follow Yu’s initial struggles to adapt to this new environment, often finding himself entangled in the escapades of his new classmates, Ace and Deuce. A significant threat looms in the form of Riddle Rosehearts, also known as the Rose-Red Tyrant, whose notorious temper the students strive to avoid.
Production Details and Future Seasons
The anime adaptation was initially announced in 2021 and was further detailed at a content showcase event in Singapore in November 2024. The series is planned for three seasons in total, adapting the original smartphone game’s accompanying manga series. The subsequent seasons are titled “Episode of Savanaclaw” and “Episode of Octavinelle.”
The animation is a collaborative effort between Yumeta Company and Graphinica, known for their work on Record of Ragnarok II. Takahiro Natori (known for Tokyo Mew Mew New) serves as chief director and series script supervisor, with Shin Katagai (from The Ossan Newbie Adventurer) directing. Yoichi Kato (Space Brothers) is credited as the main writer, and Hanaka Nakano and Akane Satō are responsible for character designs, adapting Yana Toboso’s original game designs. Takumi Ozawa, the composer for the Twisted-Wonderland game, also provides the music for the anime.
Voice Cast
The English dub of the anime also premiered on October 29 alongside the Japanese version. The voice cast for the first season includes a roster of talented actors, with Jonathan Ha as Yūken Enma, Paul Castro Jr. as Riddle Rosehearts, Hunter McCoy as Deuce Spade, and Max Mittelman as Ace Trappola. Ben Diskin lends his voice to Grim, while J. Michael Tatum voices Dire Crowley.
