The popular ice hockey manga series Dogsred, penned by Golden Kamuy creator Satoru Noda, has experienced a month-long hiatus, attributed to the author’s health. This break follows previous instances of the manga going on short hiatuses due to Noda’s ongoing struggle with bicep tendonitis.
In September 2023, the series, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine, took a one-week break as Noda dealt with worsening bicep tendonitis. At that time, the magazine indicated that Noda would likely take more breaks in the future to manage the chronic pain from his condition and to ensure the quality of the manga. A Reddit discussion from April 2024 explicitly mentioned a month-long hiatus for Dogsred due to Noda-sensei’s illness. Additionally, a Reddit post from December 2023 also questioned a potential month-long break, with a user suggesting it was likely due to the common extended breaks around Christmas and Jump Festa for many series.
Noda launched Dogsred, which is a recreation of his earlier ice hockey manga Supinamarada!, in Weekly Young Jump in July 2023. The recurring breaks highlight the challenges faced by manga artists in maintaining demanding serialization schedules, particularly when dealing with chronic health issues.
