Kyoto Animation’s highly anticipated film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, which premiered in Japan on June 27, 2025, has unveiled its non-credit opening, additional cast members, and new visuals. Crunchyroll has acquired the global theatrical rights for the film, excluding Asia, and will release it with Japanese audio and English subtitles in North America.

Non-Credit Opening and Theme Songs

The non-credit opening for the movie, featuring the theme song “Namida no Parade” (“Parade of Tears”) by fhána, has been officially revealed. fhána has consistently provided theme songs for the Miss Kobayashi‘s Dragon Maid anime series since its first season in 2017. Additionally, Sachiko Kobayashi performs the film’s ending theme, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Our Days”). Both theme songs are included in the film’s theme song CD, which was released in Japan on June 27.

Additional and Returning Cast Members

Several new voice actors have joined the cast for the film. Fumihiko Tachiki is cast as Kimun Kamui, Kanna’s father and the leader of the Chaos Forces. Nobunaga Shimazaki voices Azad, another new character. Enka singer Sachiko Kobayashi, who also performs the ending theme, takes on the role of Felicitas, a dragon in Kimun Kamui’s army. Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro lend their voices to fairy characters in the movie.

The film features a largely returning voice cast from the previous seasons of the anime. Mutsumi Tamura reprises her role as Miss Kobayashi, Yuki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna Kamui. Other returning cast members include Yuki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa (Quetzalcoatl), Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yuichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Kato as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shota Magatsuchi. Notably, Shiori Sugiura takes over the role of Ilulu, replacing the previously retired Tomomi Mineuchi.

New Visuals Unveiled

To celebrate the film’s theatrical release, a special collaboration visual was released. This visual was co-drawn by the original Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid manga author Coolkyousinnjya and the anime’s character designer Miku Kadowaki. The visual showcases Kanna, Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru drawn by Coolkyousinnjya, while Kimun Kamui and Azad, appearing to be on the verge of battle, are drawn by Kadowaki. A new key visual featuring Kanna with a sorrowful expression and the new characters was also revealed earlier this year at AnimeJapan 2025.

Film Synopsis and Production

The film continues directly after the events of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, the second season of the anime. The narrative centers on Kanna Kamui as her peaceful life with Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru is disrupted by the arrival of her father, Kamun Kamui, who demands her return to the Dragon World to rectify a past error. As a conflict between the Chaos and Harmony forces brews, Kanna finds herself torn between her loyalty to her friends and her father’s demands. Miss Kobayashi endeavors to mend Kanna and Kamui’s fractured relationship, while Iruru uncovers a hidden power manipulating the brewing war.

Tatsuya Ishihara, who directed Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, returns to direct the film for Kyoto Animation. Yuka Yamada provided the script, and Miku Kadowaki served as both character designer and chief animation director. The film has a runtime of 105 minutes.
