The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved, which premiered in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025, has unveiled its non-credit opening sequence, a roster of additional cast members, and new key visuals, offering fans further glimpses into the cinematic expansion of the beloved series.
Non-Credit Opening Sequence Released
The official non-credit opening for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved is now publicly available on Kyoto Animation’s official YouTube channel. The opening theme song, “Namida no Parade” (Parade of Tears), is performed by the Japanese music group fhána, a band that has consistently provided theme songs for the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid anime since its first television series in 2017. The film’s theme song CD, which includes “Namida no Parade” and the ending theme “Bokutachi no Hibi” by Sachiko Kobayashi, was released in Japan on June 27, coinciding with the film’s theatrical debut.
Expanded Voice Cast Details
The film introduces several new and returning voice actors to its ensemble. Fumihiko Tachiki joins the cast as Kimun Kamui, while Nobunaga Shimazaki takes on the role of Azad. Additionally, Shinya Takahashi voices a middle-aged fairy, and Azusa Tadokoro is cast as a fairy girl.
A notable casting change sees Shiori Sugiura stepping in to voice Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022. The film also features veteran singer Sachiko Kobayashi, who performs the ending theme song “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Our Days”) and is credited as the voice of Felicitas.
The returning main voice cast includes Mutsumi Tamura as Miss Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna. Other familiar voices reprising their roles are Yūki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa, Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi.
New Key Visuals and Collaboration Art
Multiple new visuals have been released for the film, providing a fresh look at the movie’s aesthetic and characters. A brand-new key visual was unveiled at AnimeJapan 2025 in March, offering a dynamic preview of the film’s atmosphere. Furthermore, to commemorate the theatrical release, a special collaboration visual co-drawn by the original Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid manga author Coolkyoushinja and the anime’s character designer Miku Kadowaki was posted on the movie’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. This visual features Kanna, Kobayashi, Tohru, and Ilulu, alongside Kimun Kamui and Azad, depicted in a poised confrontation. Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the anime adaptation, also unveiled a set of eight character visuals in May, showcasing both fan-favorite characters and a new antagonist.
