Kōtarō Yamada, known for his manga adaptation of The Sacred Blacksmith and A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, has launched a new manga series based on Hirotaka Akagi’s light novels. Akagi is also the author of SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist, a popular comedy series with a unique premise. The new manga, titled Ojōsama-kei Teihen Dungeon Haishinsha, Meiwaku-kei wo Bokottara Bazutte Densetsu ni Nattemasu wa!? (A D-Tier Pampered Lady-Type Dungeon Streamer Beats Up a Griefer-Type, Goes Viral, and Becomes a Legend!?), debuted on Shogakukan’s Sunday Webry website on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

What’s the Story About?

The original light novel series, [Hihō] Ojōsamakei Teihen Dungeon Haishinsha, Haishin Kiriwasure ni Kizukazu Dōgyōsha o Bokotteshimau ([RIP] A D-Tier Pampered Lady-Type Dungeon Streamer Forgets to End Her Stream and Beats Up a Colleague), is written by Hirotaka Akagi and illustrated by Kitsune Fuku. The story is set in a modern world where dungeons have begun to appear. Karin Yamada, the main character, is a “dungeon streamer” who broadcasts her explorations of these dungeons to a small audience.

Karin has adopted the persona of a refined, upper-class lady, but in reality, she struggles with low viewership and a mere three subscribers. Discouraged by her lack of success, her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a fellow adventurer attempting to grief a dungeon for views. Driven by a sense of justice, Karin intervenes and beats up the troublemaker, unaware that the entire incident is being live-streamed to a large audience. This act of heroism, caught on camera, catapults her to overnight fame and transforms her into an internet sensation.

Karin Yamada: From Obscurity to Internet Fame

Karin’s journey from an unknown streamer to a viral legend is a central theme of the manga. The story explores how her actions, initially driven by frustration and a desire to do what’s right, lead to unforeseen consequences and a complete transformation of her online presence.

The World of Dungeon Streaming

The manga introduces the concept of “dungeon streamers,” a profession that blends gaming, exploration, and live broadcasting. This unique setting allows for a blend of fantasy and modern-day elements, creating a humorous and engaging narrative.

Who is Kōtarō Yamada?

Kōtarō Yamada is a manga artist known for his adaptations of light novels and his work in the seinen manga genre. His previous works include:

  • The Sacred Blacksmith: A manga adaptation of Isao Miura’s light novel series, serialized in Monthly Comic Alive from 2009 to 2017. The manga follows the story of Cecily Campbell, a knight who seeks a blacksmith to repair her family’s sacred sword.
  • A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics: Yamada also created the manga adaptation of Yomi Hirasaka’s A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics. The manga was serialized on Shogakukan’s Sunday Webry website and Monthly Sunday Gene-X magazine from 2022 to 2024. The anime television series adaptation produced by SynergySP and Studio Comet aired from April to June 2024.

Who is Hirotaka Akagi?

Hirotaka Akagi is the author of the light novel series SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist, a dystopian school comedy that gained popularity for its unique premise and humorous take on censorship. Akagi is now working under the pseudonym Dragon Tanishi, and began serializing the original [Hihō] Ojōsamakei Teihen Dungeon Haishinsha, Haishin Kiriwasure ni Kizukazu Dōgyōsha o Bokotteshimau story on the Kakuyomu website in June 2023, where it is still being updated. What is SHIMONETA About?

SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist is set in a dystopian future where the “Law for Public Order and Morals in Healthy Child-Raising” has banned all forms of obscene language and materials. The story follows Tanukichi Okuma, a high school student who enrolls in a prestigious academy dedicated to upholding public morals. However, he soon finds himself entangled with Ayame Kajou, a “perverted terrorist” known as “Blue Snow,” who leads an organization called “SOX” that protests against the strict regulations by spreading lewd content.

Key Elements of SHIMONETA:

  • Dystopian Setting: A world where freedom of expression is heavily restricted.
  • Satirical Comedy: The series uses humor to critique censorship and societal norms.
  • Rebellious Characters: The members of SOX challenge the established order through their subversive actions.

SHIMONETA was adapted into a manga series illustrated by Yuzuki N’, which ran in Monthly Comic Blade from March 2014 to February 2016. It also received an anime adaptation by J.C.Staff, which aired from July to September 2015.

Fantasy Comedy: A Popular Genre

The combination of fantasy and comedy is a popular genre in manga and anime, offering readers a blend of adventure, humor, and often heartwarming moments. Some notable fantasy comedy manga include:

  • The Devil Is a Part-Timer!: A story about the Devil King and his general who find themselves working mundane jobs in modern-day Tokyo.
  • Farming Life in Another World: A relaxing tale about a man who decides to become a farmer in a fantasy world.
  • Isekai Uncle: A comedy that plays with isekai tropes, featuring an uncle who returns from another world with strange memories and abilities.
  • My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!: An otome game reincarnation story where the protagonist tries to avoid her character’s tragic fate.

These series often feature characters in extraordinary situations, dealing with both the challenges of their new environments and the humor that arises from their interactions.
