The manga adaptation of Formerly, the Fallen Daughter of the Duke, illustrated by Ushio Shirotori, has gone on hiatus as Shirotori recovers from the birth of her second child. The announcement was made by Shirotori on her X/Twitter account. She anticipates recovering by winter.
The manga, based on Saki Ichibu’s light novels, launched on Mag Garden’s Mag Comi website in September 2020. Mag Garden released the seventh compiled book volume of the manga on April 15, and Tokyopop published the sixth English volume on June 10. The original light novel series, which began serialization in March 2020 and concluded in May 2020 on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, has its fifth print volume with illustrations by Nemusuke shipped in June 2024. J-Novel Club is releasing the novels in English, with the fifth volume having been released on June 27.
About the Series
Formerly, the Fallen Daughter of the Duke follows Claire Martino, who seemingly loses everything—her family, her fiancé, and her inherited magic—due to her half-sister. Scorned as a villainess and the daughter of a disgraced duke, Claire embarks on a journey of self-discovery. However, she soon realizes her situation mirrors the plot of an otome game called NEW START ♡ ETERNAL LOVE, specifically its hardest route.
This is not the first time the manga has experienced hiatuses, as previous breaks have also been attributed to the author’s health. Long waits for manga releases do not always signify a series has been dropped, but rather can reflect slow release cycles or authors catching up to the Japanese publication schedule.
