The popular action role-playing game Fate/Samurai Remnant is receiving a manga adaptation, set to begin serialization on July 28. The manga will be illustrated by Mugetsu, known for their work on other Fate projects, and will be available on the Type-Moon Comic Ace website. Type-Moon and Koei Tecmo Games are credited for the original work.
Bringing the Waxing Moon Ritual to the Page
The Fate/Samurai Remnant game, released in 2023, plunges players into an alternate timeline Holy Grail War known as the “Waxing Moon Ritual,” set during Japan’s Edo period. The story follows Miyamoto Iori, a ronin in Asakusa who unexpectedly becomes a Master and summons the Servant Saber. Together, they navigate the brutal ritual, forming alliances and facing enemies.
The Illustrator Behind the Adaptation
Mugetsu, the artist for the Fate/Samurai Remnant manga, has a history with the Fate series. They have provided artwork for “Craft Essences” in Fate/Grand Order and previously worked on Fate/Grand Order: Holy Grail Front. Notably, Mugetsu also illustrated a prequel manga to Fate/Samurai Remnant, suggesting a deep understanding of the game’s world and characters. This prequel, titled Fate/Samurai Remnant Jou, was released as a one-shot in 2023.
Game’s Narrative and Potential Manga Directions
Fate/Samurai Remnant explores Iori’s journey as he grapples with his role in the Waxing Moon Ritual, having been trained by the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi (who appears as a female Berserker Servant) and having studied under Sasaki Kojirou. The game features multiple endings, leaving open the question of which narrative path the manga will follow or if it will introduce its own original conclusion.

The Fate/Samurai Remnant manga will be available on the Type-Moon Comic Ace free manga website starting July 28.
