The manga adaptation of Saki Ichibu’s Formerly, the Fallen Daughter of the Duke light novels has gone on hiatus due to the manga artist, Ushio Shirotori, recovering after the birth of her second child. Shirotori announced on her X/Twitter account that she expects to have recovered by winter.
The manga, which is published in English by Tokyopop, began serialization on Mag Garden’s Mag Comi website in September 2020. Mag Garden released the manga’s seventh compiled book volume on April 15, and Tokyopop published the sixth volume on June 10. This is not the first hiatus for the series, as previous chapters also saw extended breaks between releases.
The story of Formerly, the Fallen Daughter of the Duke follows Claire Martino, who once had a loving family, a fiancé, and magical powers, but loses everything due to her half-sister, Charlotte. Framed for cruelties she did not commit, Claire leaves her home and country. However, things take an unexpected turn when she starts experiencing strange dreams that seem to be the plot of an otome game called “Upstart ♡ ETERNAL LOVE” on its hardest difficulty setting. This unique twist, where Claire questions which world is real, sets it apart from many other dating sim manga.
The original light novels by Saki Ichibu began serialization on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in March 2020 and concluded in May 2020. Mag Garden published the first print volume of the light novel in December 2020 with illustrations by Nemusuke, and the fifth volume shipped in June 2024. J-Novel Club is releasing the novels in English, having released the fifth volume on June 27.
