The manga adaptation of Saki Ichibu’s light novel series, Formerly, the Fallen Daughter of the Duke, has gone on hiatus. The manga creator, Ushio Shirotori, announced the pause in serialization to recover after the birth of her second child. Shirotori anticipates returning to work by winter.
The manga, which launched on Mag Garden’s Mag Comi website in September 2020, tells the story of Claire Martino, a young woman who loses everything after being disgraced as the duke’s daughter and scorned as a villainess. Claire then embarks on a journey to find her true self, a plotline that eerily resembles an otome game she once played. Tokyopop publishes the manga in English, with the sixth volume released on June 10. The original light novel series, written by Saki Ichibu, concluded in May 2020, and J-Novel Club is releasing the novels in English.
Manga hiatuses are not uncommon in the industry, often due to various reasons including the creator’s health, personal issues, or to allow for the artist to catch up with the story. While sometimes a long wait can lead to concerns about a series being canceled, many manga eventually return from hiatus.
