Fans of the acclaimed anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End can anticipate the second season’s premiere in January 2026, with Crunchyroll confirming its global streaming availability outside of Asia, including India and the Indian subcontinent. The announcement came during a Crunchyroll panel at Anime Expo 2025, where the first official trailer for Season 2 was unveiled.
The upcoming season will see some changes in the production team. Tomoya Kitagawa, who previously directed several episodes of the first season, will take over as the director for Season 2. Keiichiro Saito, the director of the first season, will remain involved as supervising director. Daiki Harashina, who directed the third episode of Season 1, has been named assistant director. Tomohiro Suzuki is set to return for series composition.
New character designers for the second season include Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka, replacing Reiko Nagasawa. Seiko Yoshioka will continue as concept artist, and Evan Call will return to compose the soundtrack, as he did for the critically praised first season. Animation studio Madhouse will also return to produce the second season.
The Japanese and English dub casts have also been confirmed to return, with Atsumi Tanezaki reprising her role as Frieren despite recent announcements of her limiting professional activities due to health concerns. Other returning voice actors include Kana Ichinose as Fern, Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark, and Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End premiered with a two-hour special in September 2023, earning critical and commercial acclaim for its poignant exploration of life, death, and humanity through the eyes of its immortal elven mage protagonist. The series delves into Frieren’s journey of self-discovery after the defeat of the Demon King, as she comes to terms with the fleeting nature of human life and fulfills the last wishes of her comrades. The first season garnered multiple awards at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Best Director and Best Drama.
Season 2 is expected to adapt subsequent arcs from the manga, including the “Continued Northern Travels” arc, the “Divine Revolte” arc, and the “Golden Land” arc, which is highly anticipated by fans and could set up a dramatic cliffhanger for a potential Season 3.
