Fusai Naba, known for his previous works “Aliens Area” and “Kyokuto Necromance,” is set to release a new manga, tentatively titled “Tenpō Zankoku Monogatari” (Cruel Tales from the Tenpō Era), on September 5. The announcement was made in the 17th issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Original magazine on August 20, confirming the launch in the magazine’s upcoming issue.
Details of the New Manga
The new series, “Tenpō Zankoku Monogatari,” is teased to follow a man’s pursuit of “righteousness” amidst an era plagued by hunger and corruption. While specific plot points remain under wraps, the temporary title and premise suggest a historical action drama set in the tumultuous Tenpō Era of Japan, a period marked by social unrest and severe famines. Naba also shared an illustration alongside the announcement on his social media.
Naba’s Recent Works and Transition
Fusai Naba’s previous manga, “Aliens Area,” launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in June 2022 and concluded in October of the same year, spanning three compiled book volumes. Both Viz Media and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service offered digital English releases of “Aliens Area.”
Following “Aliens Area,” Naba launched “Kyokuto Necromance” in Weekly Shonen Jump in April 2024. This two-volume series concluded in September 2024, with MANGA Plus publishing it digitally and Viz Media slated to release it digitally in the fall. The move to Shogakukan’s Big Comic Original magazine for his latest work marks a change in publication platform for Naba, who has previously been associated with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. This quick turnaround between series highlights Naba’s consistent output as a mangaka.
