Gachiakuta Anime: A Dive into a Dystopian World
The Gachiakuta anime, produced by Bones Film, premiered on July 6, 2025, and is streaming on Crunchyroll in various regions, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, the Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. The series is based on Kei Urana’s manga, which features graffiti designs by Hideyoshi Ando, and began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022. Kodansha USA Publishing handles the English release of the manga.
The Premise: Survival in The Pit
The story of Gachiakuta centers on Rudo, a young man from the slums of a floating city where the wealthy discard their waste—and people—into a vast abyss known as “The Pit.” Falsely accused of murder, Rudo is exiled to this dangerous hellscape, teeming with mutated garbage beasts. To survive and seek vengeance against those who wronged him, he must master a new power and join the “Cleaners,” a group dedicated to battling the monstrous inhabitants of The Pit.
Production and Current Run
Fumihiko Suganuma directs the anime, with Hiroshi Seko handling the series scripts and Satoshi Ishino responsible for character designs and chief animation direction. The anime is expected to run for 24 episodes over two consecutive cours. Episodes are released on Sundays at 8:00 a.m. PT / 11:00 a.m. ET on Crunchyroll, with same-day English subtitles and dubs. Episode 8, which introduced the leader of the Cleaners, debuted on August 31, 2025.
