The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta manga officially premiered on July 6, 2025, bringing its unique dystopian world and action-packed narrative to the screen. Produced by Studio Bones, the series is part of the Summer 2025 anime lineup and has been confirmed for two consecutive cours, indicating a substantial run.
The anime made its debut in Japan on channels such as CBC and TBS, with international streaming available on Crunchyroll.
The World of Gachiakuta: A Society Divided
Gachiakuta introduces viewers to a starkly divided society. The privileged live in “The Sphere,” a floating town, while the impoverished “Tribesfolk” are relegated to the slums below. The discarded waste from The Sphere is simply cast off into a vast abyss known as “The Pit.” This trash-filled landscape is not merely a dumping ground but a dangerous realm where monstrous “trash beasts” roam.
The story centers on Rudo, an orphan living in the slums, who is falsely accused of murder and unjustly exiled to The Pit. His wrongful conviction fuels a desire for revenge against those who condemned him.
Rudo’s Journey in The Pit and the Cleaners
Upon falling into The Pit, Rudo discovers that he possesses a unique ability as a “Giver” – someone who can imbue objects with life and draw out their powers. He is rescued by a man named Enjin, who reveals that Rudo is not truly underground but has fallen to the surface from The Sphere. Enjin, himself a Giver, invites Rudo to join the “Cleaners,” an organization dedicated to battling the formidable trash beasts using special weapons known as “vital instruments.” Rudo agrees to join, hoping to find a way to return to The Sphere and exact his revenge.
