The upcoming anime adaptation of “Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games” is generating buzz with the release of a new teaser, revealing more cast and staff details, and announcing an exciting collaboration with “Street Fighter 6”. Here’s a breakdown of what’s been revealed:

Anime Adaptation Details

“Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games” (対ありでした。~お嬢さまは格闘ゲームなんてしない~, Tai Ari Deshita ~Ojō-sama wa Kakutō Gēmu Nante Shinai~, “Thanks For the Match: Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games”) is based on the manga series by Eri Ejima, which has been serialized in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Flapper magazine since January 2020. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga in North America. The story revolves around Aya Mitsuki, a scholarship student at the prestigious Kuromi Girls’ Academy, and Mio Yorue, the academy’s idol known as Shirayuri-sama (White Lily). Both have a secret love for fighting games, which brings them together in unexpected ways.

Staff and Production

The anime is being directed by Shota Ihata at Studio Diomedéa. Wataru Watari is in charge of the series composition, ensuring the anime stays true to the manga’s spirit. Mayuko Matsumoto is illustrating the character designs, while Kana Hashiguchi is composing the music. The art setting is by @Takahashi Maho, with Scott MacDonald as the art director. Yuki Hayashi is responsible for color design, and Yasuyuki Ito is the director of photography. Toshihiko Kojima is editing the series, Yayoi Tateishi is the sound director, and FAV gaming is providing recording cooperation.

Street Fighter 6 Collaboration

The teaser PV reveals that the fighting game the characters are playing is “Street Fighter 6”. This collaboration brings the world of “Street Fighter” into the anime, promising exciting visuals and gameplay.

Story Synopsis

Kuromi Girls’ Academy is an elegant school where young ladies are expected to be refined. Aya Mitsuki, a scholarship student, admires Shirayui-sama and hopes to become as graceful as her. However, Shirayui hides a secret: she is a hardcore gamer who dominates the fighting game scene with her combo skills and trash-talking. When Aya discovers Shirayui’s secret, they form a bond through their love of fighting games.

Additional Information

The manga has eight compiled volumes released in Japan as of October 22, 2024. Seven Seas Entertainment released the seventh volume in English on December 17, 2024. A live-action drama adaptation of the series premiered in 2023. The anime is described as an over-the-top comedy about young ladies enjoying hardcore gaming. The series blends high society aesthetics with intense gaming culture.
