What is ‘Ghost’ About?
“Ghost” explores themes of loneliness, bravery, and connection in a world filled with absurdity. The story centers around a mysterious girl named Nike, who rebels against the injustices of the world to protect the “starry sky.”
According to Bandai Namco Filmworks: “Everyone has a ‘ghost’ in their hearts. It is a genuine feeling that is there but inexpressible. In this work, the girl Nike opposes the absurdity of the world in order to protect the ‘starry sky.’ This challenging work expresses Nike’s solitude and heroism, and the subtleties of the heart as she interacts with others.”
Natsume describes the film as “a work that could be called fictional but is in tune with our current time and seeks realism.” The title “Ghost” itself refers to “a true feeling that cannot be put into words, but is definitely here.”
First Look
A teaser visual has been released, depicting Nike holding a glass sword. The image hints at the film’s blend of fantasy and reality, as well as the fragility and strength of its protagonist. The visuals are currently being showcased at the MIFA (Marché international du film d’animation) event, held in conjunction with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, starting June 10th.
Natsume’s Vision
Shingo Natsume’s career has been marked by a willingness to experiment and push boundaries. “Sonny Boy,” his original TV anime, was praised for its unique style and nominated at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. With “Ghost,” Natsume aims to create a film that resonates with contemporary audiences while exploring universal themes of identity and purpose.
Release
“Ghost” is scheduled to be released in 2027.
