The Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket manga, penned by Hiroyuki Tamakoshi, has officially resumed serialization with a three-chapter run. The latest chapter was published in the August issue of Kadokawa’s Monthly Gundam Ace magazine on June 26.
The manga’s return follows a hiatus that began in December 2023, during which Tamakoshi focused on his recovery after revealing that his liver cancer had spread. Tamakoshi launched the Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket manga in Monthly Gundam Ace in June 2021. The series retells the story of the classic 1989 OVA from the perspective of the character Chris.
In a message shared within the magazine, Tamakoshi confirmed he has been drawing the manga slowly while undergoing chemotherapy, and he had three chapters prepared for immediate release. He expressed his dedication to the series and his aim to resume it on a more regular basis within the year. However, Tamakoshi also provided an update on June 28 via his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that cancer cells were again detected in his liver, necessitating further chemotherapy. Despite this, he affirmed his commitment to continue working on his manuscripts as much as possible.
