A Journey of Romance and Friendship in Nakayoshi
The romantic-comedy manga, penned and illustrated by Haruka Mitsui, began its serialization in Nakayoshi in November 2020. Over its run, the series has captivated readers with its heartfelt narrative, accumulating 12 tankōbon volumes as of August 2025. Kodansha USA Publishing has been releasing the manga in English, with the ninth volume available digitally in February 2025 and a physical release in December 2025. The 13th volume is slated to ship in January 2026.
Plot Overview: Navigating Love Amidst Change
Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You centers on Mizuho Nishino, a 17-year-old aspiring manga artist whose life takes an unexpected turn during a challenging period in 2020. Her 17th birthday proves to be less than ideal, compounded by school cancellations due to a mysterious virus. The story truly begins when her childhood friend, Kizuki Hazawa, confesses his love, compelling Mizuho to re-evaluate her feelings and the dynamics within her close-knit group of four childhood friends: Kizuki, Shin, Airu, and Shuugo. The manga also intersperses glimpses into Mizuho’s life ten years in the future, subtly revealing the characters’ career paths and evolving relationships.
Anime Adaptation’s Success
The manga’s popularity led to an anime television series adaptation, produced by Typhoon Graphics. Directed by Junichi Yamamoto, the first season premiered in January 2025 and aired until March 2025. Crunchyroll streamed the series in North America and other regions, making it accessible to a wide international audience, and also produced an English dub. Following the successful run of its first season, a second season of the anime was confirmed and is set to premiere on January 8, 2026.
The conclusion of Haruka Mitsui’s Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You marks the end of a significant run for fans of shōjo romance, leaving a lasting impact with its contemporary take on high school love and friendship.
